Very sad. Loved him as a Flame.
Condolences to his family and friends.

Sad to hear. Loved the big guy when he was here. RIP Chris.
I do wish you had have stuck it out though big fella. It's always better to be curious about what could be rather than what is just temporary that can be worked through.
Tragedy

Oh wow, what sad news. He was a great addition to that memorable team, and had some hands in addition to the intimidation factor he brought.

Sad news. I remember him playing for the Soo Greyhounds against the Kamloops Blazers in the 92 memorial cup final. He was a physical force to be reckoned with.
I loved when we acquired him in 2004 and would have liked to see him stay with the flames. He seemed to play with more control when he was with the flames.

It sounds like he had a really rough time over the last few years:
https://nationalpost.com/sports/hock...for-bankruptcy
Quote:
He has symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, which he said are “thought to be attributable to significant brain trauma during his hockey career.”
A doctor reported that Simon — who was in more than 100 NHL fights, racked up 1,824 penalty minutes and received two of the longest suspensions ever handed out in the history of the NHL — also suffers from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and arthritis to his shoulder, hand, knees, back and neck.
Just days before filing the documents in Ottawa court, Simon was among a group of players who joined a proposed class-action lawsuit against the NHL that is seeking millions of dollars in damages from the league over its handling of concussions.

Surprised this hasn’t made the headlines yet. He was super well known during his heyday. Sad he didn’t have a peaceful retirement.

Hard to believe we just passed the 20th anniversary of this trade:
March 6, 2004: Traded by the New York Rangers, along with New York's 2004 7th round draft choice, to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Jamie McLennan, Blair Betts and Greg Moore.
RIP Chris, and thanks for the memories.

One of my favourite all time Flames and they wouldn’t have had the run in 2004 without him. He was so feared and quite skilled.

He says sudden loss.
I wish I could write a twitter bot that sends a tweet to every moronic "hockey has gotten so soft" written about this.
and I know I'm jumping to conclusions.

He's from that era where anyone that size was expected to fight, and fight a lot. IIRC he was suspended in the OHL for a lengthy time in 92 and had to get special permission from the OHL commissioner and CHL to participate in the tournament.
Sad news and RIP for a guy who could be a really nice guy with his team mates, but had his demons that did impact him too.
