Easier said than done. The Flames don't have the disposable assets or cap space. Good luck with that

Wonder if the sens would trade Cat if Norris' injury is going to set them back a full season. Behind Kane, that would be a very interesting RW target.

Why would they do that? He's part of a long-term core there. Their contention window is just opening up but really 2-3 years from now is probably when they will really be going for it. Right now they are just trying to play more meaningful hockey and take a step.

Yeah, I don't really see it either. But they havent re-signed him yet and perhaps they sense trouble in doing so?
In terms of interesting fits for our roster, I just like the player.

Don’t think the sens gave up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd just to try him out for 3/4 of the season. They will sign him since he will still be RFA.
By all accounts all parties are happy there

On insider Trading, LeBrun says the Sharks have let it be known they are willing to listen on everybody except Hertl.

I'd be looking at Kunin or Svechnikov.
Everyone but Hertl? Sell a few studs and snag Eklund?

I bet they'd be interested in local youngster Dustin Wolf.

Meier has the Tkachuk leverage.
$10 mil QO and 1 year away from free agency.
Could force his way to UFA by accepting his QO.

Kunin is a guy I’ve always liked. He’s still got some untapped offense, plus he’s skilled and really grumpy to play against.

Would be gret to trade for him as a rental. Attach a huge condition if he re-signs and let him walk. A team might want him to sign him long-term so not sure that would be possible, so they would give up more. But that huge QO will make it difficult because he has a ton of leverage, a la Tkachuk.

I doubt it goes this way but it kind of feels like Marner will be the odd man out of Toronto looks to do something. Seems like he is not getting along with the coach and with his near $11M cap hit moving him over Nylander makes sense for Toronto. He is a right shot and plays pp and pk with some excellent vision similar to Gaudreau.
Flames could be a partner for the Leafs if they were looking to do something for a Dman and a forward but I find it hard for the Flames to fit in multiple wingers at 10+M. I also doubt Toronto eats any cap.
If they move Marner who would be first in line? Islanders? Devils?

Yeah, I get the same feeling you do as the media in Toronto has really zeroed in on him during this rough stretch by the Leafs. Having said that, I don't think this is anything new to Marner as he's played there for long enough to know what it's like when you or the team isn't doing well. There's got to be a lot of internal stressing though among management as they also have Matthews expiring soon and they definitely don't want to move Marner only to watch Matthews leave too. I kind of think as well that Shanahan changes the coach/GM before he moves either Marner or Matthews.

Wasn't the rumor out of Toronto that Matthews was going to get to UFA, then bolt Toronto? If so, they might want to hold on to Marner. Rumor or not, I believe they will lose Matthews to UFA, or more accurately-the USA.
