Trade makes sense to me.
Lucic has been surrounded by Oilers impeding his success. Neal failed to perform on a team full of guys having career years.

BOS Lucic was one of my all-time faves and reminded me a lot of Cam Neely.
I honestly don't know how much of my impression of EDM Lucic was tainted by overall Oiler stank, and therefore I'm willing to hold my thoughts until I see him in action.

so... an exchange of the flames' worst regular skater for one of the average to above-average oilers skaters who should fit a bottom 6 role better for the flames...
it would certainly look worse without picks and only a 10% retention. it's a pretty meh trade but for the players' hilariously awful contracts

No, because sports is so much lower on the priority scale than the others, it's a ridiculous comparison. And I'll watch the playoffs next year to see if the Flames can somehow most past 30 years of misery, but I don't see the point following the regular season when it's meaningless
