Icon48 NHL teams preparing for CHL players being allowed to play in the NCAA

per Friedman on HNIC.

He said the NHL has informed GMs that the NCAA is seriously considering letting CHL players to play in the NCAA after their CHL eligibility is done.

There may have to be some CBA negotiations because currently players drafted from the CHL have their rights held by NHL teams for 2 years and USHL/CJHL/NCAA for 4 years and the rules may have to be adjusted.

So is that something where they would meet in the middle, or just keep the rights at 4 years across the board?

With CHL grads taking roster spots in the NCAA, I guess that means there will be fewer NCAA spots for young guys.

Would player be allowed to play in the CHL for a year or two and then go to the NCAA or do they have to finish their CHL eligibility.

Based on the first post, their eligibility would need to be finished.

Presumably these are older players who want to get a degree.
