I definitely wouldn't go that far, however:
Lucic is a better fit on the bottom 6 in Calgary than James Neal.

I don't get this.
Lucic's
- contract is buyout proof
- a year longer
-he's even worse than Neil, he has no hands left
This is a worse situation in all aspects.

Are you kidding?
I absolutely loathed Neal's game pretty much from the exhibition season and on but even I can admit this move is just craziness.
Lucic's buyout proof contract coupled with the NMC are the worst aspects of his contract. Only a colossal return of draft picks and salary retention would make this palatable.
Treliving is playing with serious fire here. Neal can rebound with a puck dominant center like McDavid or Draisaitl creating space for him. Why in world would he be interested in helping out the Oilers at all? Madness.
*The only way I could see Lucic helping out the Flames if he parks his rear end in front of the net every shift and creates havoc like Tkachuk. I'm not sure his physicality, toughness and penchant for faceoff wins does enough to offset everything else that he lacks.

Lol, no he isn't.
Lucic couldn't produce riding shot gun with the best player in the NHL.

Sincere apologies if you thought I came into the Trade thread and thought it was a UFA signing. Thank you for pointing out to me that Lucic was not a UFA signing by BT.

Nope, but talking about hockey in July brings me joy, which is why I am here (and I suspect why many are here.)
I have never seen you derive pleasure out of any hockey related piece of news, so either you're anhedonic or a troll (why else would you be here.)

Last year he was equally as bad as Neal- at least he provides toughness. Contracts are the same length as well just FYI

Contracts are the same length, and both players are equally bad
If Calgary doesn't have to protect him in the expansion draft, and the retention is alright, I'll begrudgingly understand the trade.

Can we at least wait for the details of the trade, we are talking about bottom six forwards, if the Oilers have to put Neal on the first line it’s because of their lack of talent. The Flames top six is very good, so I’m waiting for the whole details of the trade before I over react

Honestly i like it, Neal was completely terrible last year, and it doesn't matter if he had a low shooting percentage last year, most of his shots were not even close to going in, they were terrible shots. He was absolutely useless last year. I am not saying that Lucic is better, they are both bad, but neither Neal nor Lucic would crack our top 6, thus i would rather prefer having Lucic on my bottom 6, at least he will intimidate other players.

You are correct about Lucic, if the retention is $600K. Are you adding the retention to Neal? De facto I guess that's the result.

The only way this isn't completely idiotic is if the oilers are eating $3M-$4M of his AAV.
He's a fine player at about $2M a year. If not, this is by far one of the dumbest moves I can see being made a flames GM in the last couple of decades.

He couldn't produce because he couldn't keep up with their top line and seemingly killed plays when they got to him...
That statement fits exactly with what James Neal was here. Do you honestly think that Neal will fare better in Lucic's spot? He thought he was mistreated by this organization and got moody about it- he is in for a world of hurt in Edmonton.

Still bitter about choking a 3-1 lead in the Finals to Lucic eh?

Essentially it could be that the NMC is getting nullified/modified.
If a player waives a NMC/NTC and the team does not want to honor it post trade and the player still waives, the NMC/NTC becomes void or potentially modified to a lesser NMC/NTC.

Max the Oil could eat is $3M
