“We could potentially have 11 first-year players on our team, and with that group comes the energy and excitement of playing to your (top) level and doing it quick,” says Heat head coach Jim Playfair. “I think that’s an exciting way to go about it. We know we’re not going to have experience in terms of the knowledge of the league, but we will have youth and energy. Sometimes that can be a lot better.”

“There’s more urgency to get these guys playing to their (top) level right away,” Playfair explained. “Last year, we had some time to see how it shook out. I don’t think we have that luxury this year, based on the fact we’ve got a real young team. These guys have to step up.”
Irving turned aside 34 shots in a strong performance.
“He was by far the best player on the ice,” Playfair said. “With [Mikka] Kiprusoff and [Henrik] Karlsson in Calgary, he’s trying to identify himself as the No. 3 guy. He let six goals in two nights ago but I thought he responded very well.”
Heat forward Kris Chucko must be thinking “not again” after he was sidelined with what the team is calling a shoulder and neck injury suffered when he ran into teammate Bryan Cameron.
Chucko was circling the net on the fore-check when Cameron missed his intended target and ran into his teammate.
“We just want to make sure he got checked out,” said Playfair of Chucko’s situation. “He’s listed as day-to-day and we’ll see where he’s at.”
