Just want to say I’ve enjoyed your takes on things for a long time.

That whole period was the Islanders just holding on for dear life. Habs deserve it just as much as the Isles. Especially considering they have to beat the Knights and the refs.

I've joked about "Hailing Satan" for wins, but is there any doubt when it comes to Montreal's success?

Fair take, I am sure that many share it.

Habs have been 'holding on' for a lot more than a period though.

The Isle's path here has been significantly more difficult.

Why is Varlamov selling out so recklessly by coming out to challenge like that on the play? Especially as he had a defender in front of him.

The Islanders series of shifts with about three or four minutes left were the best example of playing with a lead you’ll see.

Also the islanders took a 3-0 lead prior to “hanging on”. They were by far the better team in the second.

All 5 Isles were on the other half of the ice. As McDonagh gets the puck, the Isle defender is at the hashmark of the other circle. Varlamov was on the goal line and it looked like a straight path in that instant. He probably pushed out a bit too far, but he also may have thought there was even less time left.

It was also Ryan McDonaugh, not Kucherov. Or anybody remotely skilled at beating goalies one on one. Everybody in the building and watching at home thought he was shooting.

After Tampa made it 3-2 the Isles pushed back hard and hemmed the Lightning in for long stretches towards the end of that period, effectively killing the clock in the process. Not exactly what I would call "holding on for dear life". That 3rd period was a clinic in how to protect a lead.

Trotz had a very effective time out session with them. It’s not the first tone either. He did the same versus earlier in the POs.

As fun as that game was, I'm still thinking Tampa wins this in 6. It takes a near perfect game from NY for them to win, but even while sleep walking for 2 periods Tampa nearly takes the game simply by deciding to actually play in the 3rd. They're just too strong top to bottom, and they're not going to take 2 periods off again back home

Yep, it's going to such a shame if that $20 million over the cap team wins again, with all the cool winners we could see this year. But it will likely be them.
