Unless the problem was caused by the first accident somehow. Maybe something was damaged as the car was dragged along the tracks.

Interesting. I don't often drive this route, but I always thought that the traffic lights were in sync with the flashing lights for the train there. Having both green and flashing red lights at the same intersection doesn't seem very safe to me.

Now the front end loader that was used to remove the vehicle this morning is back. They are trying to get this afternoon's train back onto the tracks.

Spoiler!

I drove by that spot right before it happened.. I farted going over the tracks... maybe that is the problem.

I've never paid that much attention so I don't know if they go back red after the arms are down but they certainly go green prior to the arms lowering to ensure people aren't stuck on the tracks.

It makes sense though, it would be pretty horrific to be sitting on the tracks, hear the bells ring and not be able to move because the light is red and you're boxed in...

Now we obviously all know you shouldn't be on the tracks at a red to begin with but the same goes for people blocking intersections at red lights.

I'm certainly not trying to be argumentative, but the more I think about it, I just can't see those lights being green. There is a set of lights across 9th Street that I could see staying green a little longer to allow the intersection to be freed, but there is a set immediately after the tracks that I just can't see being green while a train is going through.

Here's the intersection on Street View: https://maps.google.ca/?ll=51.049873...74.78,,0,-3.18

If the lights are green when a train is passing, N/S traffic on 9th must have get red light, so traffic in all directions would sit still while a train passed. Surely 9th must get a green when the train passes - there's no point having traffic stopped in all directions when 9th isn't even blocked by the train.

All of that being said, the synchronization is a lot more complicated than I'll ever know. I just assume, perhaps wrongly, that the traffic lights and the crossing lights work in concert there.

SB train just started moving after some impromtu repairs with a sledgehammer and the jaws of life. They appear to be re-opening 4th ave again.

You see the same thing at 25th ave on the way out of Stampede Park. When the train signal goes off, the westbound lanes of 25th get a short green. The theory is that anyone on the tracks will clear, while the people behind the tracks will remain stopped. The light, however, is red before the train actually passes through.

This, of course, makes assumptions about human intelligence that are often unfounded.

Car just got t-boned at 7th Ave and 3rd Street.

Southbound/Eastbound trains are totally stopped - other direction still getting through.

Should this just turn into the Ongoing C-train-Vehicle accident thread?

So much for its "Flex" factor. (Too soon?)

Any major injuries?

The way it's be going lately, it should probably be renamed the "Ongoing C-train Attack Thread".

Unfortunately it is more like:

"The Ongoing.... Why the heck are Drivers & Pedestrians not paying attention to the darn C-train/LRT thread"

Not making fun of any injuries & fatalities; but this is unreal...

I carry around bear mace just in case any shift train car takes a run at me. They're really unpredictable.
