I think it is worth mentioning that we drivers save a lot of people from their own stupidity, otherwise these numbers would be much higher. The best example is people who walk out from behind a train, not thinking another train could be going the other way. This is why we are trained to use our clanger when we are about to pass a train going the other way. I have kept many people from being hit by my train with this technique.

I really like the drivers that when leaving the station that block the crossing until the in coming train has arrived. It should be standard practice.

As an aside we had a really hard stop to avoid a jaywalker today at Chinook. I think it must have been close because the train stayed stopped for a few minutes. This is about a year after I was on a train that hit someone in the same spot.

Happy to see some peace officers at 1st St station lecturing the jaywalkers and would-be jaywalkers this morning. Hopefully it is a little effective considering somebody still tried to jaywalk across right in front of them.

Hopefully nothing.

I cant see the specifics but it looks as though that Audi is either travelling or parked perpendicular to the tracks, that tells me that the car is at fault here.

I know from experience that the front coupler on a U-2 unit is $75,000...

Let's start there...

That was my initial thought, but that front coupler is torqued sideways, so it must have grabbed the car at some point. Maybe the guy was ignoring a red light and got t-bones and tossed to the side, then dragged to the platform...

so what is more valuable - the coupler or that vehicle that used to be some model of audi?

i'll assume the driver was late to wherever it was he was headed.

The final trains of the night get to the end of the line after 2:00am. There are trains running in both directions on both lines through downtown at 1:00am.

Oh dear.

http://calgary.ctvnews.ca/driving-le...tion-1.3535210

A young woman’s time behind the wheel of an SUV ended abruptly when the vehicle she was driving left a parking lot, crashed through a barrier and landed metres below on the platform of a southwest CTrain station.

According to police, family members were teaching the young woman to drive in the parking lot of the Calgary Islamic Center’s southwest masjid in the 5600 block of 14 Ave SW at around 8:00 a.m. when she lost control of the Infiniti SUV.
