Shapo is going to come back and win this match because he turned his cap backwards and he always plays his best tennis with the backwards cap.
Edit: Okay, so it's not looking good at the moment.

Well a bad day for Canada. And therefore the World.
Once again all hopes rest on Leylah!

I see less fight in Andreescu's game than there was, prior to her injuries (and then the pandemic).
Am I making this up?
Maybe she just needs time (after so much time off)?

I'm not sure, I saw some glimpses of the old Bianca, but the consistency is what I think is missing which is understandable due to a lack of matches lately. Mango said it a few days ago, she needs matches to regain her old form, but then she plays more and seems to get injured which puts her behind the 8-ball again.

Leylah is up second on the Stadium 1 court on Tuesday. Her match against Shelby Rogers should be starting approximately 1:30 pm Mountain time.

Tommy Paul with the biggest win of his career late last night in Indian Wells as he takes out #4 seed Andrey Rublev in three sets.

I watched the first episode of the Netflix doc series Bad Sport last night which featured the ASU college basketball point shaving scandal in 1994. I bring this up due to the tweet below and that match fixing in tennis is still rampant in 2021.

Jessica Pegula almost bageled Elina Svitolina in the opening set winning it 6-1. Svitolina has left the court for a MTO.

Svitolina has returned with her upper thigh heavily taped and is not moving well at all.

Another potential upset brewing as Ostapenko won the opening set 6-4 over Swiatek.

Rogers has cruised in her first 3 matches. Will be a tough test for Leylah. Rogers also has recent wins over Bianca and Ash Barty.

Pegula wins 6-1 6-1 - Tough one for Elina as she was clearly hampered by that injury she picked up in the first set.

Leylah is warming up as I type - Let's go!!
Edit: Good opening service game, nice aggressive play at the net by Leylah

Ostapenko upsets Swiatek in straight sets and will play the winner of the Leylah - Shelby match.

That's pretty big. Not that Ostapenko is a slouch but I don't think Iga was a particularly good matchup for Leylah if she can get through here.
Solid serving in the latter part of that game from Leylah.
Rogers is starting out pretty strong here, she's really playing her best since the US Open notwithstanding getting dummied by Raducanu. Could be a close match.

Yeah, that game shows you exactly what the path to victory is here: getting rallies started on Rogers' serve. And a lot of that is going to be figuring out a way to get the first serve back in play in a manner that gives you a chance to get into one. Rogers will miss eventually.
Leylah's forehand is looking good so far. Was a bit of concern at the end of the last one with how she kept favouring her arm.
Oof... spoke too soon, terrible miss to give Rogers break point.
EDIT: Manages to survive a couple break points because she is the definition of clutch, and off we go.

Good battle by Leylah in that service game to consolidate. Shelby is going for lines because Leylah is getting most everything back which means a thin margin of error for the American.

Yeah I thought she served pretty well there but Rogers doesn't seem to be having any trouble, very good returns for the most part. Just have to stay with her and grind out the points and it'll slowly but surely keep going in the right direction.
