I look forward to seeing it. I’m curious though; what is a true comedian to you?
Someone who tells jokes to be funny and not "jokes" to get the audience to agree and cheer because they agree with what the comedian is saying like Colbert does. Also not Amy Schumer. We get it. Your vagina smells. Great but not very funny.

Colbert isn’t a standup so it’s not really fair to compare him. I don’t expect quality comedy from a late night monologue anyway.
I don’t find Schumer’s standup to be funny. But there are tons of funny comedians out there. What’s “untrue” about them?
I still don’t get what’s “true” about Chappelle in any unique sense. He’s amazingly talented but I would still put guys like Stanhope up there with him as masters of the craft.
Seriously? His Netflix stuff is still really good. Not a lot of comics with that game.

Chapelle was already a top tier comedic talent, but I think this special cements his body of work among the all time greats.
I just googled it and all the top responses were damning articles about how he went too far, despite it getting generally positive reviews. Stay woke, silicon valley.

I watched 1st Summoning tonight and unless only one person who is easily pleased rated it I don't understand how it got the high rating it has.
I've watched other found footage movies that even though they aren't as good as The Blair Witch Project are atleast decent but this one failed. There's a point where it looks like it could start getting good but then fades.
I didn't love the Chapelle special like most of you. I liked it, especially how he was fearless tackling topics that most comedians would pass on all together or tiptoe around on eggshells, but I just didn't laugh out loud enough to consider it great.

Not done yet, but kid of feel the same. It wasn't due to taking offense to the topics. I was just surprised it came off a little "look what I was willing to joke about" more so than actual laugh out loud amazing jokes like he usually tells.
Don't get me wrong I'm absolutely not one of the butthurt critics saying it was inappropriate or stupid to take on such topics. It just felt like the daring subject matter of a joke was suppose to be a big chunk of what made the audience laugh.
It's fine, he's amazing and I've laughed at pretty much everything he's made, just wasn't that into this particular road he went down, and not because it was offensive, but because I feel the reach to touch offensive humour took away from his natural ability to kill it with a well crafted and delivered joke.
