This thread makes me feel better some days. I find myself getting angry at commercials and wonder if I'm the only one.
Glad I'm not. So many bad ones out there.

I can't see the Visa App commercial with Marner and Nylander again. I just....I just can't.
I'm pretty sure Nylander's expression as he looks up from the ice surface slowly siphons portions of my soul each time.

I'm undecided about the latest Matthew McConaughey Lincoln commercial. Not sure if I can't stand it or if I like the weirdness of it.

It is so bizarre. Like, he drives a Ford. And he just needs to get away from his friends/sycophants to go for a relaxing drive in his Ford (that nobody under 75 would want).

I'm finding most of the Ford commercials just awkward, like the pairing of people in the commercial dont work well together (mom who warns son not to text and drive) or (guy who hits garbage cans), the commentary seems to be forced and cringy to me

The whole premises is that Matthew McConaughey who is on top of the world, life of the party, makes amazing trick shots that amaze the crowd, at the end of the day takes solace in his rebadged Ford is absurd. You almost sense it in his smirk when he's in the car at the end of the commercial that it's just a big troll job. There's something refreshing about a top actor that's basically saying to us; " #### it! I'm going to take the money and I don't care if people make fun of my Lincoln commercials".

I've always thought in that shot of him walking out to his car, he looks stoned out of his head.

Probably already mentioned, but those Questtrade commercials are awful. Every time I see them, I want the finance guy to tell dipshirt Joe or Jane blow to take their money and gtfo. I'll see you in 30 years when you are 70 and working as a Walmart greeter because you effed up your own retirement funds.

On the flip side, Wealthsimple's commercials are very good. All of them.

i'm sure it's been suggested before, but why don't companies just recycle old beloved commercials from previous eras?
I figure it would save them money and lessen the risk in getting one of the many crap commercials.
heck even take the commercial idea and refilm it for modern sensibilities if it's too dated.

Speaking of old commercials, I saw an ancient commercial last night while watching TV. It was an old Government of Alberta/Canada commercial about forest fires and how to properly put out a campfire. It was probably at least 25 years old. At the end of the commercial the family drives away from their campfire in a Toyota Previa minivan.

Did it have the "Please make sure the fire's out" jingle?

I can't stand that one series of commercials where they say the same thing twice and change the tone and meaning.
"Change 'Honey, what did you do to the bathroom?' to "(excited) HONEY, what did you do to the bathroom!!!".

The latest Ford Edge commercial brags about their car having the "most available driver assist technology in its class." Most available? That's the best superlative they could come up with?

These new Viagra commercials have gone full McConaughey. What is up (besides the obvious) with that? Again with the ad content having sweet jack all to do with the product. Makes me want to stick Viagra dude in a Lincoln with McConaughey, both full of Viagra & with stiffies that hurt & have the Mayhem dude from the AllState commercial send them both ping ponging down a cliff into the ocean.

For a brand named No Frills they sure have a lot of pointless, confusing, over-stuffed commercials.
