There's no origin story this time around. He's Spider-Man right away.

As noted, he is already Spiderman in the film.

The villian origin is also very smoothly fast-tracked.

If you like Spiderman at all you should check it out.

A bit of an odd recommendation, but I liked "Ghost in the Shell", at least I thought the cinematography and world that was imagined was gorgeous to look at.

The story kind of strayed from the comic, so purists will have issues; but otherwise it was still pretty good and I conclude that I didn't waste my time by watching it.

Saw Moana. I honestly thought it was just ok. People I know hyped it up too much before I watched it but I still didn't hold my expectations very high for it.

I will recommend War For the Planet Of The Apes. The characters were so great that my eyes almost leaked a little. They even added a little levity, which I never thought would fit in this series, but it was welcomed. The movie was well paced and the action/effects were as good as ever.

I am usually able to give action movies a pass. But I had some trouble with this one.

Saw 'Baby Driver' today. It wasn't too bad...but in an odd sort of critique, it got more and more improbable as it went along, until up at the end it was outright ridiculous. Then kept going. It's about 35-40 minutes too long, I think.

Also, the nicest car they had in it (a Hellcat) was only used it for about 5 minutes. A shame.

Saw Spiderman:Homecoming. I liked and it was fun, and although I'm very glad it didn't go through another origin story, I thought Peter could have used some more depth as a character, beyond his relationship with Stark and Happy.

Enjoyable movie, but I'd suggest keeping expectations in check.

To be fair. Nolan is a critic darling for the most part. Still going to go see it though.

I watched the latest installment of The Planet of the Apes franchise last night.

I enjoyed the movie, but I was expecting something else based on the trailers. I'd have to say that the second movie was more "war" and this, the third one, was more "dawn".

The CGI is very good, especially for Maurice the Orangutan. Lots of scenery from Tofino/Ucluelet and K-Country show prominently, too.

Spiderman was probably the best spider man since the first one. Keaton as Vulture was great. The man was made for comic book movies. What I liked about it is they didn't foreshadow any new villains for the foreseeable future, I mean Flash is a growing threat and I like how they set up MJ through the whole movie. They have a nice set up for post infinity wars.

I don't imagine those guys will be in the next one (at least not as the major villain). There were a few others in the movie as well.

Saw Baby Driver last night after numerous recommendations and reading good reviews. I don't go to many movies a year so I was excited for this one.

What an utter disappointment, is what passes are a well reviewed movie these days? 95% on Rotten Tomatoes? Did a missing something?

I don't recall another movie with so many shameless plot devices in years. I understand that it's a action car chase movie so I'll suspend reality to a degree but some of the conflicts in the narrative were so forced and self-indulgent. Nearly every character was cliched and predictable. I won't get into spoiler territory but my god this movie was thoroughly mediocre. People would need their Edgar Wright glasses strapped on tight to suggest anything otherwise. The only bright spot was the female love interest who was the only character with an ounce of genuine depth.

5/10

I feel like some people don't understand that 95% on Rotten Tomatoes doesn't mean it's amazing, it just means 95% of critics felt more positively about it than negatively.

A movie could get 100% and be a decent but not especially remarkable or memorable film in any way.

That said, I also thought Baby Driver was just good. Nothing that interesting about it. Fun and dumb.
