Default MMS Group Messaging Android

Hey Everyone! I am having a rather perplexing issue here.

I am in a group message (started with imessage) with a number of my colleagues who have iPhones and and Blackberry (running Android), I am the only one with an Android Phone LG-G7 ThinQ. I can receive the group messages just fine, however when I send a group message, they all get sent as individual texts and not in the group message itself. I have enabled the MMS setting on my Google Messages texting app also so it is not that. I have tried clearing my cache, reinstalling the app, restarting phone (etc) Everyone else however has no problem with the group message and they can send and receive in the same thread.

Does anyone know how I can possibly get this fixed?

Thanks in advance!

I'm actually surprised to hear that everyone else can get the texts in a group.

We leave out anyone not on iMessage when we group text for that reason - it sends as individual texts to those people.

Do you have Data? I know this affected my group messaging abilities before I sprung for it.

On my Pixel, there's a setting in the SMS app under advanced, group messaging for "Send as a mass SMS (MMS)" or "Send SMS reply to all recipients and get individual replies". I believe this needs to be changed.

Everyone should just use WhatsApp. Solves the problem entirely.

We don't bother group texting with people on Android for this reason. It breaks the message group every time we receive a message from the person.

I'm 99% sure there's nothing you can short of making all the iPhone users send via text instead of iMessage.

I would suggest having everyone switch the group chat to WhatsApp or Slack (or get an iPhone).

This is weird. I'm in multiple group texts with iPhone and Android people and we don't have any problems (I'm on Android).

The only issue is my wife's work iPhone. It's locked down in some weird way by her IT that doesn't allow her to participate in group texts with Android people (she can only use iMessage for groups).

I'd be super pissed if Apple people tried to cut me out of group texts.

MMS is device and OS agnostic. The OP just needs to find and change that setting.

If you read my Original Message, I have enabled the MMS settings under the Advanced Options... I also do have Data on my plan.

I think it's more of a device thing. I have zero problems getting group messages on my Android phone regardless which platform they are coming from. However another friend, also on Android, has the splitting issue. He has an older Samsung.

Another good reason to use WhatsApp is video. If my brother sends me a video from his iPhone, it looks like it was filmed on Super8. If he sends the same video through WhatsApp, it's fantastic.

As far as cross platform functionality goes, it can't be beat. Global use with no additional charge (assuming WiFi), end to end encryption. Lots to like. Can even install in on PC from what I gather.

Yes, why use an open standard than can be supported by anyone, if they do it properly, to one owned by Facebook? No thanks.

Nothing I hate more than being told I need an app and account to communicate with others, when they are just trying to replace a common protocol.

I simply don't trust Whatsapp because it's free and, as proven time and time again, nothing in life is truly free. There's no way that a company like Facebook is simply running this incredibly expensive service out of the kindness of their hearts.

That being said, we use Slack at work and I love it. Also, far from free.

Yeah, I have Send a MMS reply to all recipients (group MMS) turned on. I called Virgin Mobile tech support and they told me that the LG G7 Thinq does not have Advanced Messaging and I would need that to send group messages. Is that true?

Not sure I trust tech support in this case because there are multiple cases of people not having any issues here...

I group message all the time between iPhone and Android and the only issue we generally have is one Iphone users responses are sent as individual texts.

I would think the advanced features are carrier specific and not phone specific. Google has a carrier services app that will enable advanced features if they are available from your provider.

My in-laws always send group messages to my wife and I but I'm the only person not using an iPhone, so I can't ever reply. I never even bothered to look into a fix, as I just chalked it up to iPhone securing market share by withholding the ability to engage in group texts with other iPhone users.
I just changed my settings, to this, so it'll be cool if this works.
Thanks!
