40,000 is pretty expensive when the average awards are like 500 credits, and your picking up 30 credits off of bodies.

I'm on my fourth world and I've managed to save up about 26k, and thats without buying armor or weapons.
As you progress throught the levels, rewards increase dramatically. I was able to pay for the skill as soon as I hit the level without wasting time focused on looking for more money. Only reason you should have trouble, imo, is if you're constantly paying for your companions to level your crew skills. Gotta take it reasonably slow with that.

or you go hardcore on the crafting skills and start selling stuff on the auction house to make money. my level 32 Guardian went with Cybertech, so i've been making rank 4 ship mods and selling them. it costs me about 2k to buy the mats i need, and i can sell the mods for 8k no problem.

Nice. Haven't tried out the auction house yet, myself.

i only started doing it after the Great Slicing Nerf of 2011 (it's such a useless skill now), before that i was rolling in the dough and buying anything i desired from the AH. at level 25 after i bought the speeder training and speeder, i still had over 40k in the bank and my guy was entirely decked out in purple gear (even my companion was half blue/half purple)

i totally understand why they nerfed slicing, but i'm still quite sad it happened. it still needs to be balanced though to make it somewhat profitable

Yeah - This was basically why I advocated for anyone starting out to take slicing. I only made about 300k with slicing on one character before the nerf, but it's more than enough to fund all my other character's crew skills, and to get two extra rows of inventory, as well as just not having to worry about credits for probably 20 levels.

It's still profitable, and I send my crew members out to do slicing when there's nothing better to do (scavenging and biochem are my other two), but not as no-brainer as it used to be.

i don't even find slicing to be profitable at all anymore. it seems half the time i send a companion out, they either fail and bring back nothing or the lockbox they do bring back gives me less credits than what the mission cost. at best i seem to be breaking even

So I jumped, made the purchase and finally finished the 28gb download, but like a complete moron I didn't spend much time looking at the system requirements before doing all of this. I have the graphics set on low but the game is running extremely laggy to the point where I can barely do anything.

I've got a Dell Studio 15 with an Intel 2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10 GHZ processor, 2 gigs of Ram and a Radeon HD 3450 video card, all of which I think meet the requirements.

My question to you guys is this... What would be my easiest, cheapest fix so the game will run? I'm dying to play it and don't want to be out the 100 bucks for the game and 3 months of play.

Turn off shadows. This made a huge difference for me.

add at least another 2 gigs of ram and grab a newer midrange graphics card like a GeForce 550, both of which would set you back less than $200

Cheapest way would be to turn all graphical settings to low, and add 2GB extra RAM. You probably still won't be super happy with the look, but it should play without massive lag. A mid range video card would make it much better looking, for about $100.

one of the SWTOR developers made a post hinting at some of the changes and new content that will be coming, and a few of them are quite interesting

Quote:
Guild Functionality – Guilds are important to the long term health of any MMORPG. We have a huge list of guild centric features. This will be an ongoing effort that will probably never end. Guild banks are the first thing we’ll be delivering in our plans for increased guild functionality. Eventually we even want to deliver on the promise of the long hinted at “Guild Capital Ships”.

Space Combat – We will continue to add missions to the space game. We also have a special project going on right now that will expand space gameplay in a significant way... for now the details will have to remain under wraps.

if they get anything close to an Xwing vs. Tie Fighter system implemented for the space battles, i will nerdsquel for joy

I have my doubts that they will do that to the Space combat system, as cool as it would be.

I would assume that there is going to be more of a role in for your companion, maybe they can fly escort or strikes with you in command, or add turrets to your boat.

I actually like the Space Combat system, its pretty much mindless and a nice break from the ground stuff.

I wish they would create another character class on each side that's a command character or a naval officer if you aspire to command a ship in the service of the Empire.

man I wish I had read the responses to this post before buying a new laptop! Its in the mail now so too late....

Turning off the shadows definitely helped big time. I currently have a pretty similar system as you Mav, even with a slightly worse graphics card and with graphics settings on low and shadows off I am not suffering from lag anymore. Sure it doesn't look great but I can confirm the game is definitely playable with what you've got. I think the Dell Studio 15 is a laptop too so you are probably not going to be able to upgrade your graphics card but you should still look at upgrading ram as that will be very cheap/easy to do (I have 4Gb of ram and is the only thing my current laptop has you beat at).

If your still having problems with lag with shadows off let me know as there is an easy way to optimize your computer for gaming that might help.

I've hit my stride now as a force of evil on Nar Shadda.

I slaughtered everything and executed a defenseless foe simply for the reason that he was weak and it would please my master (So I can murder the fat ####### later)

I stopped by memory express yesterday and plan on upgrading the ram tonight. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks.
