icon57 Treliving and the trade deadline

Mods poll please.

Like the moves today.....adding new truculent players to the lineup.

Will this help? I like this as Tkachuk has another teammate to help him draw players into games.

Thoughts ?

Good?

Bad??

Meh?

No real moves expected.
No real moves made.

As expected. And just fine. Hold and see what this team (and more importantly, these coaches) can deliver.

More time in the summer for adjustments as required, based on results.

I'd like to see their past winners and losers lists and compare them to the results. They are always so biased in favour of the biggest trades. Now, I agree TB did very well, but most will list SJ as a "winner". Well, we'll see, won't we.

As disappointing as it is to see the Flames not add a big piece, given the prices I'm happy they stood their ground.

Still want Hoffman. Hope they can do something in the summer.

Would like to see how the team does with a different coach before any big "win now" deadline deals as well

I'd say a 4th line Centre for a 7th round pick was an alright deal

We added two bottom 6ers for a 7th in 2019, we are not losers. You know who are the losers? The team that traded maroon for nothing

Default Treliving and the trade deadline

I’d like TSN to say what they thought we could accomplish with limited draft picks and prospects outside the untouchables (Valimaki, Fox, Andersson, Parsons)

Flames didn't have the pieces (draft picks) for a substantial move to be made. I thought Treliving did a good job giving up very minimal for what the Flames added.

Excellent trade deadline, now the onus is on Gulutzan to manage his expanded roster by meritocracy not nepotism for veteran pets. If a Kulak gets hurt, you play Kylington. If a Stone gets hurt, you play Andersson. You give Shore an opportunity to be a key PKer and two-way forward. Don't just bench Mangiapane by default, see what lines truly give us the best chance to win. Etc.

Sure would have liked to grab Mats Zuccarello, though.

Glad the Flames didn't do anything outlandish. I think everyone is still trying to understand how good this team actually is. Shipping out someone like Bennett just for the sake of making a splash would've been foolish, depending on return. The rest of the season and playoffs will give management (and fans) a better understanding of what the team is and will need for next year.

Any team that doesn't make a big splash on TDD will be labeled a loser by TSN or SN. The networks look like fools every year on this day.

Glad to see no one thinks we did badly. No big gambles , nothing risky lost and this team can deliver .....they just need to want it more now for the rest of the season.

Win our own games and not rely too much on the out of town scoreboard.

I'm glad tsn says we are losers again...I love being the underdog AGAin .....let the games begin.

Go flames go.

We did awesome today! Gave up a 7th and added some needed bottom 6 depth. 9/10 for me.

B+ from me.

Addressed their depth (and toughness). Didn't get caught up in high-priced (over-priced) acquisitions.

Walked out with their 4 blue-chip defensive prospects intact.

Flames are a better team today than they were yesterday. They barely gave up any assets to do so. Sure, you can argue that they didn't get a RHS right winger to put up a lot of points, but Stewart WILL help in that regard, and Shore might be such an underrated pick-up being a RHS center being able to take some important draws and helping to drive possession.

They did what I think was right for this team given the age, the future contract re-signings and the position in time this team is. They can make some noise in the playoffs, but they are not bona fide contenders where they felt the need to put themselves over the top.

It was a good day.

thumbs up for me...

didn't do anything silly on a rental player, kept all the talent in the pipeline intact...

funny thing is we've "won" trade deadline day with the acquisitions of Brad Stuart one year and also Olli Jokinen in another year.

TSN's list is meaningless

Thumbs up from me too. Can't find any real fault. Pretty much nothing was given up and we upgraded our bottom 6.

I don’t mind either of the moves. Makes our bottom six tougher and better. Two things we needed. However we didn’t do enough. Needed a top six splash. I am starting to wonder if the reason treliving didn’t do that had less to do with acquisition cost, but more to do with smith. If he’s out longer than we all expect then it makes sense not to make a big swing right now with depleted picks.
