One or two gens could be called dropping the ball. Don't think half a decade of technical stagnation qualifies.

Its interesting to see the binning process for these processors becoming so refined now overclocking is barely worth it anymore, not sure if that's a good thing for the consumer? I love the days when you could get a cheap mid range processor and overclock it to have similar performance to their high end parts but not sure if we will be seeing that as much now. Price increase isn't great either.

Prices are already up on Memory Express.

5600X - $420
5800X - $630
5900X - $760
5950X - $1,140

I really miss the days where the high-end CPU's were in the $500 range

I miss the days when high-end GPUs topped out at $800.

It seems like the 5800 is the sweet spot in terms of performance, but an extra $210 over the 5600 seems a little steep

So right now the Ryzen 3700X is running at the same price as the 5600X. Wonder if its worth it to buy the last gen just for the extra couple of cores instead of the 5600X

Hm if the 5800X was cheaper I might go for that but for the difference I'll go with a 5900X.

I wonder if they'll be impossible to get for a while like the GPUs..

At that point, why not do 5900 if you're thinking of a 5800 for the incremental?

I mean I checked MemEx's stock of 5900x's yesterday at 8:30 AM, and they had already fully sold out except for one in Winnipeg.

So I'mma guess yeah, they're going to pull the NVIDIA gag and have limited supply til after christmas.

I sorta figure that it'll be easier to get a 5900 than to get a 3080. But I have no real world data to base that on. Just hope maybe?

Managed to score the graphic card and for now it pumps great in the "old" machine.

I was hoping to build 5900x/3080 in January, but now I'm not even sure I'll be able to do that easily

I'm going to be doing that but a little later in the year due to real life.

Would be helpful if you guys shared your builds since I am a noob compared to you nerdlords.

Yeah I'll show it off/talk about it im sure; I haven't upgraded my CPU in ~5 years and haven't built on AMD since the 90s, so it'll be notable.

I'm waiting til Jan because, though I have the cash now, I promised my wife I would wait until she was back on fulltime hours (stupid covid).

My next build is gonna be so damn expensive. Keeping my current PC in the kids room for them to use as a family computer, so my new gaming rig will be all new with some kind of 1440p gsync monitor. Coupled with a 3900x and 3080 it's probably going to creep close to $3000. I'm waiting until we have a very solid savings account after buying our house before I try to convince the wife

This is interesting. Zen 3 might perform better with 4 sticks of RAM, regardless of size.

Just finished migrating my systems into a naked case, and it looks dope. Now to do the internals.

I too, want new sheit.. 3080/5900 like psycho.

But, I cannot find that sweet spot monitor. I have a Predator X34, and the only monitor I've found over 30" with next gen specs is the Predator CG437K

<1 ms (Most in-market today, are >4ms)
4k
>32"
GSync

Perhaps this recently released new Viewsonic..
https://www.viewsonic.com/eu/pr/cont...ch-4K_254.html

Are there any in others in that sweet spot?

Based on just the components and the re-sale of the 3080 right now this actually seems like good value https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/desk...Ht7uhaDCfw_wcB

Of course it’s not as flexible as your own build...but for the price it seems like it might be the cheapest way to get a 3700x and a RTX 3080 right now

Can anyone comment on this Dell P2421DC monitor?

I currently have a U2415 and would like to add a second higher resolution screen, preferably same size. Unfortunately Dell's only offering at 2.5K in 24" is this. Is there much difference in quality between the Ultrasharp and Professional line? I don't see that it's factory calibrated, other than that, not seeing much difference beside connections.
