I saw a fair number of games for BC this year and I was continually impressed with Gaudreau. His playmaking ability is well documented but what really surprised me was his ability to win battles along the boards against much bigger players, and an incredible ability to steal pucks with backside pressure in the neutral zone ala Datsyuk.
He is another example of the (seemingly) new emphasis on drafting players with an abundance of heart and determination, as well as skill.
I am very excited about his potential and can't wait to see how he develops this year. I believe he has the potential to not just make the show but to be an elite player.

I really hope the Flames are able to get another Gaudreau type prospect. And by that I mean a prospect that has lots of positives but one main thing (e.g. size) that makes other teams hesitate on him.

Valuing work ethic and intelligence as well.

I hate that we keep bringing up Gaudreau because I'm really really anxious to see him in a Flames jersey and that's probably not going to be for another three years haha.
Everytime I think about our prosepect base I try to curb my enthusiasm towards Gaudreau, but it's so hard to.

Just heard John on the Fan this morning. The Flames have projected him to make the team for 2013/2014. He is an exciting player, that is compared to Patrick Kane, and our, and our very own hall of famer Theo Fleury

I listened to the whole thing and they did not say that, they want him to keep working hard and "maybe" he will be ready next year and if not keep working and "maybe" the year after...they have no set timetable. That was right from Jon's mouth...paraphrasing of course.
I'm excited too, but lets not get carried away.

Agreed. Wouldn't Jankowski classify as that?

After going and getting to watch him live yesterday, I definitely think he has the tools to develop at the same rate as Gaudreau! Both going to the same school(Dubuque), both started light and "undersized" could be great things coming!!

The thing about Jankowski too is his problems are fixable. Gaudreau can do the best he can with what he's got, but he can't control his height.
FTR I love Gaudreau, I think he's a future star player for this team.

One thing that makes me very optimistic with Gaudreau is his ability to go through players players.
Some players like RNH play a little more slippery and bounce off checks simply to get back up. Gaudreau doesn't do that. He fights through everything. He had three players hooking him down while he attempted to get his breakaway today, he finally got loose before he got the clear chip for his penalty shot. He is somehow able to shrug them off. He's the one to initiate, not the one to react. He's very similar to St. Louis in this respect.
I imagine his speed has a lot to do with it, but there's a lot of power in his frame.

Really size isn't everything in hockey people. If the guy has the skating ability and the mind for the game thats all that matter. Sometimes people to much stock into size. If scouts are basing their decisions starting with size they should be fired. You can't teach hockey sense, you just have it.

Depends on who your hockey people are, there was a time when size was very important in the Flames organization.
Favourite thing about Gaudreau so far was his interview with Kerr. Kid has a major chip on his shoulder because he was one of the final cuts from the US team last year and I say good on him for upping his game because of it, he's pretty much a lock now to play for his country and it shows that the guy has serious pride in his game. Great to see and I'm excited at the thought of him coming into the league for the 13/14 season.
One of the other great parts of Gaudreau is that pedestrian Flames fans don't know shat about him still. I keep talking about him to these folks and they are like 'ya ok, Calgary has crap prospects', but one day I will look so smart to them.
I bet there were people just as 'HYPED' about ROBBIE Schremp...We'll see how this one turns out but save the "back patting" for now
