If you go to Yoga and Spin classes frequently for enough time, you become one of the regulars. Eventually, you will pretty much be forced to meet the other regulars. This process will be accelerated if there happen to be real estate agents, photocopy sales guys, or anyone else in any kind of sales that relies on networking.

I also find "hobbies" generally a bad way to meet people, and I don't necessarily want to meet someone who's into my hobbies. Many of my hobbies are either sports or nerdy things. The only hobby I've met women that I'm interested in was co-ed dodgeball.

Apps and bars, up until about a year ago when I stopped being single, were still the best option. I met my current girlfriend on an app.

You have much to learn young padawan.

Follow these steps:

1) Wake up early and get yourself looking good (but not so much that it looks like you tried) Really get into it - buy some lulu lemon ####.
2) stretch a bit before hand and do some planks/push-ups so your body is already warm - you'll be able to get deeper into stretches and thus look more like a pro
3) Pick a yoga studio in: Kensington, Mission or Beltline
4) Get there early - like be the first one
5) set up your mat first
6) Go get some water and wander a bit
7) Come back - there's going to be someone who's set up a mat behind you, in front of you and beside you on both sides. Yoga is 95% girls, so you have a great chance to strike up conversations with a chick.
8) Have a conversation with one or more of the girls. You can totally pre-can a bunch of conversation starters.
8) Do yoga
9) invite a girl out for coffee - its basically late-morning to mid-day, and there's nothing less creepy that a daytime date
10) Repeat the next day

It's totally not desperate because:
a) The girls set up their mat next to yours
b) You're really into yoga (as demonstrated by your gear and deep pose abilities)
c) There's barely any other guys there, so its not as if you're only talking to the girls by choice.

I am a married guy in his mid 50’s and it stuns me you want to not use it he interwebz.

To me that seems so much easier. Find a website that caters to your interests - for example I am sure I have seen banners for fitness singles, and craft an accurate ad that includes proper grammar and to me it should then get easy or am I missing something

I wouldn't say terrible (I know dudes that have done pretty well) but for whatever reason the ladies are not as friendly in Calgary as a lot of cities. I know it's not cool to give Edmonton props for anything but it's noticeable how much friendlier the ladies are up there. I don't know the stats but it seems like the ratio of male to female in this city is higher than a lot of other places. Or maybe because there's a lot of money in this city they are snobbier. Or maybe a combination of the above.
