As others have mentioned it's important to be there with your dog at the end. Someone advised me in the past to pay before you take the dog in the back. That way you can just leave after.
I hope it doesn't sound cold but I've been through it twice already and it does help.
Please accept my condolances.

Many if not most veterinary clinics will do it this way for this purpose exactly. They will also try and schedule the appointment late in the day (last one if possible) so the owners do not have to walk through a waiting room full of people on the way out. The clinic we take our animals too also keeps one of their exam rooms exclusively for this purpose. It's located away from the others for more privacy.

I'm so sorry for that sad news. What a beautiful dog.
This was from a condolence I read recently online to someone about their dog that just passed: "Just because you are coming to one kind of ending, it doesn't mean what you had will ever be over. Because they leave themselves behind in so many ways. It will always feel good, even though she won't be around, to remember that she was never hurtful or disappointing, that you were always her favourite, that just being around you was a full life".

I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race; for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years, what would it be if they were to live double that time?
Sir Walter Scott
It is tough. I've been through it a few times myself. This time last year I had to put down my 13 yo pal due to stomach cancer so I know how you are feeling and what you are going through NinePack. Sorry to hear but enjoy your time that is left!

Let's hope she proves them wrong. She's got a hell of a lot to live for. She's a couple of tough breeds too. She might surprise you. My dog lasted two years after we made the first vet appointment.

I can't imagine the amount of fur you must have to vacuum up each week.

Hey. I’m new to Calgary and need a vet for my golden. I’m in the SW and looking for a good vet that won’t break the bank.

Robot vacuum cleaner. Cleans up fur automatically plus my dog thinks it's chasing him so gets excercise out of it

Try the Elizabeth St Pet Hospital in Okotoks. I've liked them so far. Prices are generally cheaper outside of the city. Drive might not be too bad if you're in the SW.

We take our 7 animals to Animal Clinic West on 37th St. at Bow Trail. They are the best we've been to out of the 5 or so vets we've tried and often give us a discount if they can. I like to think it's a volume discount.
