The league took the wimp's way out. Should be a firm 5+.

Yeah I would prefer they just say 5 games. If that carries over into the next round or even next season, too damn bad

That's way too light. Potentially 3 games for cross checking someone in the face. And that's for a repeat offender. Pretty good deal for Kadri.

I can't recall seeing that before, but maybe I didn't pay attention.

Similar type ruling to Raffi Torres suspension on Jarrett Stoll six years ago.
Torres was suspended after G1 for a minimum of three and a maximum of six. It turned out to be six as SJ lost in G7.

Seems like a lot of suspensions in this first round. We've two already, and there might be a third already. Seems high, to me, or am I just paying more attention to other teams this time around than I usually do?

As a repeat offender you would expect the suspensions to get worse, not potentially stay the same. He was suspended 3 games last year. As a 5th time repeat offender the penalty is anywhere from the same as the previous penalty up to 2 extra games. Not really the normal escalation you see with repeat offenders.

Looks like the league is saying play tough, not stupid or else.

Burke on CBC ripping into the open ended suspension. Saying now it can’t be used as a precedent.

I really hate Kadri so maybe my judgement is clouded but I strongly feel it should have been the rest of the playoffs. That crossheck was absolute crap.

Maybe their initial idea was 5 games, but then that leaves some vague-ness if the Leafs lose in say game 6. Would Kadri then have 1 game carry over to next season?
They likely thought of this and then just changed it to 5 games, or less if the Leafs lose.
Or maybe I really have no clue what they thought. That's more likely.

Kadri trying to run down Torres for most consecutive first round suspensions. Could tie him next year.

I don't know why many seem to feel this isn't enough enough. A single playoff game suspension is pretty significant in the eyes of the NHL, so having multiple games at all is large. The fact that they've suspended him for the rest of series, and the fact that the Leafs may not advance, basically means he may be suspended for the rest of the season.
The penalty for the cross check to the head seems appropriate here. He's missing extremely crucial games, and may not get a chance to return to the ice.

Gutless from the league. Made it a full five games that will carry over to the next round or next season.

Umm, Burke used to be in the player safety department. He knows better than anyone that the league doesn't work on precedent.
