Flames WCSF: GAME 4 - FLAMES AT OILERS - 7:30pm TV: SN/CBC/TVA/ESPN - RADIO 960

Preview
Calgary at Edmonton

Trailing 2-1 in a playoff series is not uncharted territory for the Calgary Flames. They were in this exact situation in their opening-round set with the Dallas Stars before winning three of four games to advance.

However, as the Flames prepare for Game 4 of their Western Conference second-round clash at the Edmonton Oilers, they are up against a team that has been dominating play for much of the past two games. On Sunday, the Oilers rode four second-period goals to a 4-1 victory.

Down 2-1 in Battle of Alberta, Flames need to make series all about them

A mature approach is definitely what’s needed from a relatively inexperienced Flames team hoping to change the narrative in a series that saw the Oilers score eight straight goals over Games 2 and 3 to take a 2-1 lead.

Save for two slow starts, McDavid and his top line have spent the bulk of the time putting the Flames on their heels in a high-scoring series that doesn’t favour the Flames.

What’s needed now is for the Flames to flip the script by returning to the physical, forecheck-first possession game that led them to the division title.

This is the same as 2019. Flames can't contain McDavid (MacKinnon) and have abandoned their system out of panic.

They aren't reacting anymore, they are over thinking everything which is what leads to the breakdowns we see

This series is done in 5

Get a quick start, get one or two early and quiet the crowd. See what happens from there... Go Flames Go!

Tonight all I want to see is smart plays at the offensive blue line and the F1 staying high enough where he can still be a shooting threat but also be able to track back if its turned over (when McDoofus is on the ice). Please focus on taking away the transition and we stand a very good chance of winning this game.

It's 2-1. There's so much life left in this series at this current time. Tonight is clearly a huge game, but that's by design in the NHL playoff format. At 3-0 it's doom and gloom. At 2-1 it's just where you're otherwise at in a best of 7.

Emotions are a rollercoaster. Win this game and we're back on the peak. It's go time.

Flames need a full 60 minutes, something we haven't seen all series. They also need to see markstrom show up already, pretty sad that he's been the second best goalie on the ice the entire playoffs.

It's basically game 7 tonight. I am curious if sutter has any tactical changes to make, as the flames have been brutal against the oilers top line in all three guys.

I think it's imperative that the Flames score first so they aren't chasing the Oilers. Get a lot of shots on Smith early like the first two games and hopefully hold on with a better defensive effort than they have showed in the first three games.

no sense in having each game in the series start at the same time when you can constantly move it around.......

what can be said, this is a pretty big game
