Would have taken him in Calgary on that deal for sure. Looks like he prefers TO.

Thats a great deal.
He's still a very serviceable and experienced player and a bargain at that money.
I hate the Leafs but I dont think I could ever not cheer for Gio.

Good for him. Not the player he was a few years ago, but definitely still a good player and probably a really good bargain at that price.

For 800k a year I’d have him back in a heartbeat.

Love Giordano and if we're putting a team together solely for cap reasons $1MM AAV for Gio is a steal even at his current abilities. That said if he was coming back to Calgary I would honestly question his ability and the team's ability to accept him coming back and taking on a diminished role relative to leading the team as captain as he did for years. Might mess with the chemistry that they have going for them right now.

No, this is not a player on the open market. He wants to finish his career there. He's from the area. He also has a better shot there than most places at going on a cup run.
He could easily chase the dollars, but he's chasing hockey dreams. Have to respect him for that. Good luck Gio!

True definition of a home town discount. NHLPA probably not so happy.
My guess as part of this deal also is a wink and nod agreement to having an organizational role with the Leafs when he's done playing.

IMO, this was telegraphed the moment his home in Calgary was put up for sale. The fact he waited so long to list it suggests he was open to the opportunity to come back here if it was on the table.

Good contract for the Leafs. Happy for Gio as he gets to play in front of family for his last few years.

Agreed. Same reason as to why Iggy wasn’t signed to become a Flame again, although I would loved to have seen it. Gio will probably sign a 1 day contract with the Flames to retire as a Flame, same as Iggy.

Flames also have Mackey and Valimaki, both of which seem ready. And it would be a dick move to sign Gio while in the middle of a playoff run as it would all but guarantee that the third pairing won't be back.
Ultimately, bringing gio back doesn't make a lot of sense for flames.

Happy for Giordano, would've been sad to see him retire on an early exit. Seems like a bargain contract for a still serviceable defenseman.

Heck of a deal for the Leafs. He’s still a very good player.
Johnston says it’s $800K
This will be one of the best value contracts in the league for the next two years.

Giordano wants a Cup. Can't really blame him for taking a huge discount to remain with a contender.

Agree on second sentence.
First sentence will mean another contract somewhere else in 2 years.
