If ever in St. Albert I'd recommend folks hit up Jack's Burgers. It's as good or better than Boogies was in the early 2000's before the ownership changes.

I picked up a burger press from Barbecues Galore and it's worked well.

Before I got it, I just used a regular spatula to press it down by hand with a layer of parchment paper between so it doesn't stick.

I tried saucy burger on 17th ave not too long ago and it's.... very saucy. Not in a good way.

It felt like a burger made by someone that only saw burgers on TV and thought "hey I can make one of these burger things."

I just use a regular metal spatula and push down on it with a metal bench scraper. Then I use the bench scraper to lift the burger off to flip it.

And now I want smash burgers...

I don’t know how A&W burgers etc stack up but they have nailed the sustainability angle. Meal for 5 last night - only garbage was dip containers, only recycle was cups, rest 100% compostable.

Anyone try Saucy burger on 17th Ave? (the old location of Dirty Nellies). Looks like a Shake-Shack-ish offering.

It was absolutely not Shake Shackish.

The closest thing we have to Shake Shack in Calgary I think is Lil Empire in Bridgeland.

Yes, it was mostly in the Eastern US, but it looks like they're expanded to most of the country and even into Mexico City.

Here's to hoping they come up north at some point, as it is in my opinion, the best burger you can buy.

Anyone tried this place? Looks like there's one opening next to Cora's on 130th soon.

The Edmonton reviews don't look promising. Lots of comments about overcooked food.

Interesting. I had this in Toronto, and they actually offered a medium rare burger. It was pretty tasty.

They're here in Toronto, it's okay if they aren't busy. Their claim to fame here is the not so secret menu which includes such things as having grill cheese sandwiches as the hamburger bun.
There veggie patty option is called "The option" which is a cheese and mushroom patty, but if they don't cook it right, it becomes a soggy oily mess

It's okay if you get a normal burger, but not something I would go out of my way for here

If you're ever in Chicago (or New York), you gotta get the burger at Au Cheval. Formerly the #1 Burger in America it's dropped all the way to #4 but holy god it's amazing. Daily Meal says the thick-sliced bacon is "not necessary" but I completely disagree, get the bacon.

The restaurant doesn't take reservations, when I tried to go with a group of three on a Saturday at 4:30 we were told the wait would be 2.5-3 hours. Returning on a Tuesday at 2:30 I got a seat for one at the bar immediately, so plan your visit thoughtfully.

I have been on a huge burger kick lately and believe I have found the top 3 undisputable best burgers in Calgary (as voted on by myself) Only one main rule with the list, cannot be a fast food chain. Without further ado:

1) Major Toms - MT Cheeseburger -Benchmark Aged Brisket, American Cheese, Caramelized Onions, Pickles. This burger getting the top place surprised me, as I do not like most of the food here. Having said that, this burger is incredible, and can be ordered medium rare as they ground the beef in house. I've tried it a few times for consistency and always comes out on top.

2) Wayback Burger - Classic /w Bacon added. - Two beef patties cooked-to-order, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mustard, ketchup . A new challenger has arrived! This place just opened by the superstore in Bowness and I have to say it was incredible. Get the Onion ring and milk shake with it (also incredible).

3) National - The Clive Burger - Two beef patties, American Cheese, Clive Sauce, lettuce, tomato, dill pickles on a brioche bun. I dont know what it is about this one, but always hits the spot and love the clive sauce

CP, the above 3 burgers will knock your socks off and I welcome a bump to this thread to tell me of some new spots to try.
