A guy that plays 36% of the five on five minutes can't be matched by one guy.
Coleman was playing 17 minutes a game with Tampa for 45 playoff games in a shutdown role. With the Flames he is getting 14 minutes.

Tampa understood that stopping the other guys stars was a more winnable strategy than trying to outscore them. He is getting 11-14 minutes against the Oilers with a lot of it on the PK when there is a need to shut down a particular line.

Coleman was not signed to 4.9x6 as a 30 year old to provide secondary scoring, he was signed to shut down McDavid and Mackinnon.

Sutter likes rolling four lines. This isn't news to anyone, but you I guess.

And Tampa in the two playoff years averaged 52.5 minutes of five on five compared to this series which is 41.0, which was my point earlier.

14/17 is 82.3% ... 41/52.5 is 78%.

Pretty much flat.

Whatever Darryl likes to do and has been doing clearly isn't working. So time to try something.

Series is 2-1 with Calgary having the better five on five metrics.

McDavid is pretty good.

Isn't a coaching issue.

I know he's more than good. But why try to reinvent the wheel on defending a superstar? Make being his shadow a couple of players only job. It has worked against him very successfully by other teams. It is only 2-1 but tonight is pretty much the series.

Sutter doesn't even like dressing 4 lines in the playoffs.

This is everything we were afraid of.

And at the end of the day people can point to splits and say "Edmonton had 6 PP's to Calgary's 5 so it didn't influence the outcome".

Calgary can't play physical due to the constant parade to the penalty box so they sit back and look timid. Game 3 felt like a pre-season game with a loud crowd with it's lack of hits. We're a long way from the first few games against Dallas that's for sure!

Also, 1/3 of the game spent on the PP or PK!? In what world is that more entertaining than the real product on the ice? Could you imagine a football game with a penalty every third play? Or a basketball game where fouls account for 1/3 of the scoring?

It’s almost to the point where if everything is being called all the time you need to tier minor penalties. Take away a scoring chance it’s 2 minutes. Minor interference (Lewis) along the boards, one minute.

Just because they're calling everything doesn't mean you stop hitting.

There's still 2/3 of a fourth line if he goes with 11/7, and there have been 12 forwards in each of the last four games.
