What a collapse on 18 for Pereira.

No kidding. Par to win to not even making the playoffs.

Love the playoff format and the holes chosen.

Best overall score over two risk reward holes and the 18th

Definitely a great playoff and not an easy combination of holes.

Thomas shot on 17 was insane. That's a reward.

Predictably horrible field for the first Saudi tour event, although a bit of a surprise to see Dustin in there since I seem to recall he pledged loyalty to the PGA. But I suppose thinking about it also makes sense, he can be coked up every event, won't get tested, and he should still beat this field almost every event.

DJ got a boatloat of money (probably 9 figures +), cause not only is he probably getting banned from the PGA, he's abandoning his RBC sponsorship, seeing as the event is next week. He wouldn't do all that for nothing.

lol at Chase Koepka cashing in on his brother's name.

There's nothing compelling about this at all. It's a worse field than any given pga tour event, and most champions tour events.

Guys like DJ and Garcia must accept they are basically done caring about pga tour events at this stage of life and are hopeful the majors still let them in.

Just sucks that it's going to take away from the Canadian Open.

I wonder what tournaments they CAN play that will give them OWGR points.

I'd care if the Canadian Open was actually relevant.

That seems like a very disproportionate number of South Africans. What's the angle there?

Looking at it a little more, the name players are basically in the 35-50 range of being too young for the champions tour, but too old to compete every week on the regular tour.

Why isn't it relevant? Strange flex.

It's our national open, the only stop on the pga tour. Some of the biggest names in golf have won it. Would you prefer there was no tournament in Canada?

It's a good event and should be getting better fields in its new slot. I'd guess that DJ is the only one who will be missing that anyone could possible care about, and I doubt anyone really notices. The liv event may get some media attention, but I can't imagine it takes any eyeballs away from watching the Canadian OPen.

So it picked up maybe 3 players that reasonably have a chance of winning your regular pga tour/wgc event.

Edit- actually, shouldn’t even say winning. More like a reasonable chance of placing top 10. DJ really is the only golfer here that is world class and still close to his prime.

It's hard to figure out the point to all of this. It's not like this is going to have any chance of ever making money. I guess it's just an opportunity for Saudi's to flaunt their wealth by showing they can host golf tournaments with some semi famous pro golfers.

This is supposed to be sportswashing, but sportswashing doesn't really work if no one is watching. The point is to try and tell everyone how "great" Saudi Arabia actually is and using sports as the shield, but if no one is watching then this is just money down the drain. Speaking of no one watching, is there a single broadcast partner for this? Is it gonna be on PPV? I'm still not even sure what the strategy there is.
