Had an idea!
|
I don't get the spear. Its a clear rule.
How do they miss that but call every other incidental both players falling down play as a penalty?

Maybe it would be a good idea to actually wear a mouth guard as designed as a concussion prevention device. Not likely going to happen but the insurance implication to Tkachuk/Flames/NHLPA on a insurable event.
How does Brodie lose a tooth with a mouth guard in place?

No Rinaldo please. He's not an NHLer. And he's a selfish player.

Tkachuk should be keeping his mouth piece in; Monahan should affix his visor properly. Those two drive me nuts with crap.
Brodie's teeth? Mouth guards aren't forcefields.

Mouthguards don't do anything to protect against concussion. Also if you are getting hit in the teeth with an inanimate carbon rod, you are loosing those teeth regardless of a thin piece of plastic being there or not.

I hope that Lucic turns Benn's nose into an inny tonight. I literally do not want him to be able to smile ever again.

Don’t really want to break up the Bennett line...I think you roll them as line 1.
Put Rieder/Ryan in place of Tkachuk and roll as more of a shutdown line.
I’d even be tempted to draw Kylington in as a wildcard. A 7th D could be invaluable if we run into a long overtime game tonight.
If the Gaudreau line doesn’t figure it out tonight, break them up next game.

The reffing was definitely poor in this game.
The hit that concussed him wasn't a penalty, but they missed the spear, they missed an obvious high stick against Johnny and they called some weak, weak penalties.
Would Tkachuck have been caught in that play that concussed him if he hadn't been suffering from the groin injury that he got from being speared? Impossible to say, but may have been a factor.
This game left me really disliking Benn. I can see he is a very effective player and why he's valued, but I would sure like to see him get destroyed after seeing that he's also dirty.

The reffing was atrocious last night, the Flames should have upped the games man ship over the Benn spear asking for a suspension, Spears are filthy.
Why I was concerned about was that Dallas was playing dead puck era hockey, tons of holding and tackling and hooking and it wasn't being called.

Agreed. And 99.9% of the players need to do up their chin straps properly.
Refs have always seemed reluctant to call spearing. Not sure how the NHL handles that penalty - is it a major, or maybe a match? Maybe that's why but I don't get it - spearing is spearing and needs to be called.

Why is the NHL not reviewing the spear by Jamie Benn?

If there was ever a game to start Rittich tonight would be the night with 3 games in 4 nights.
I think with the series being so physical bringing Rinaldo back to hit everything makes sense

I avoid breaking up that 3rd line at all costs.
Mangiapane-Backlund-Lindholm
Lucic-Bennett-Dube
Gaudreau-Monahan-Reider
Rinaldo-Ryan-Jankowski
And sure, put Rittich in. Talbot is dependably good, but Rittich can be great (and terrible). Roll the dice.

Lol, it's not like a mouth guard has some sort of magical force field around your teeth. A stick to the mouth can still easily knock out teeth. That's like saying how someone could still get a head injury while wearing a helmet.

TBH I hope Lucic is out there throwing body checks and putting up points, instead of in the penalty box. Milk this brief career resurgence for all it's worth

Keep your discipline, But the Flames need to up the physical play big time. The Stars were pushing them around last night.
If you want to get back at Benn, then hit him hard clean and nasty until he's hearing footsteps. Take away the initiative force the Stars defense into chasing the puck and blast them.
This series is going to be a neutral zone slog, so dump and chase use your speed, take that extra hit stride.

I disagree I think putting Ryan back with Lucic and Dube will be fine and Bennett adds some bite to the top line. I thought he looked good playing with Monahan and Gaudreau last night.
Agree on the goalie. Talbot overall was fine but a couple of those goals were soft and it is a back to back so roll the dice.

I thought the Flames were hammering pretty good right back at the Stars last night. Mangipane had 8 hits, Bennett 7 and Lucic was crushing guys all night. It was a very physical game overall
