The stage should be part of the production (which it is) but a spectacle in and of itself. A big screen doesn't do that for me.
It's like the Star Wars prequels being mostly CGI, it's missing something.
Compare any entrance on Raw to the entrances on AEW. I just feel like if Punk came out in Chicago on the Raw set, it wouldn't have had the same impact.
It's like the Titantron is too big, too bright, too much dead space.
Is it just me? Does the new set take away from the show?
|
Agreed. When the wrestler comes out in from of the screen they get washed out due to the bright lights behind them. You need to have an actual entrance door.
I don't like when they are at baseball stadiums and players come out of the dugout either without an elevated stage. I was sitting on the floor at Royal Rumble in Phoenix in 2019, and it was horrible because you couldn't actually see the wrestlers come out - which is such a fun part of the rumble.
Even for something like Brock's return this weekend having such a poor stage set up makes the whole thing less impactful IMO.
This is still the best Raw set IMO
Or the iteration right after with the side screens and the curved steel.

^ I don't understand... it's a video with a kid and his mom and a backdrop. Why did he break through the backdrop? Why was he on a laptop at the beginning? Why are there a bunch of shots of nothing?

They did a thing for make a wish with Cena a few years back where he would come through a backdrop to surpise the kids.
It was a reverse of that surprise.
He was on a laptop because Cena had never met them in person before, he didn't know about how his actions effected the kid and the family and the mother.

God that Charlotte Nia match last night was one of the most horrible things I've ever seen, to the point where I think Charlotte got absolutely sick of the Nia botches, and the two got into what looked like a real confrontation in the ring for a couple of minutes.

Just release Nia already.
She's completely given up on improving as a wrestler. If Charlotte can't drag you to a serviceable match then nobody in that division can.

REPORT: WWE NXT will be produced by Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard
https://wrestlingnews.co/wwe-news/re...ruce-prichard/
If this is true, this will be the the final nail in the coffin for me regarding WWE. RAW is so bad already and Smackdown is sometimes okay at best, and I don't watch either of them. AEW is where it's at right now. Tony Kahn gets it; Vince does not. I can't imagine what HHH is going through right now.

Love this from Reddit today regarding NXT:
Triple H: It’s all about the game and how you play it.
Vince: No, it’s all about control and if you can take it.
Triple H: I am the game. You don’t want to play me.
Vince: I am control. No way you can change me.

Frightening situation as a lot of wrestlers have taken to Twitter to try to reach out to former Wrestler Daffney, who made a video that seemed to threaten suicide.

Her mother confirmed her death on Facebook. This is a really sad situation. Help was sent to her, but I don't think they got to her in time.
RIP.

That's tremendously sad, I was a fan of Daffney's in her WCW days. But TNA basically ruined her. First putting her in the ring with a massive untrained rookie that caused her long term injuries, then TNA screwing her on her medical expenses.
She was fun to watch and just different. She always seemed like a really genuine nice person in her interviews. But over the recent years, it sounded like things just started spiraling for her.
What an awful bloody thing to hear about and read about on line.

Yeah, so sad. I was reading a message board last night talking about Dynamite and there was one of these Sean Ross Sapp tweets in a post that had nothing to do with Dynamite. I went to the Twitter thread and it got pretty troubling fast.

Like, I love Bruce's podcast. I think it's a great peek behind the curtain, you get a better understanding of how professional sports entertainment works, and cool stories and explinations of people and things from the past.
That said there are two things that annoy me about Bruce's podcast:
(1) He'll never critize anything Vince has ever done;
(2) His hate for the dirt sheets, in particular Dave Meltzer, has become comical.
In fact, if he's painted into a corner where he'd have to admit that Vince did something idiotic, he'll just rant about how much he hates Meltzer.
Regardless, as much as I love Bruce. It's so clear that he's a Vince Yes-Man, and him being in charge of NXT isn't a good thing.
I'd like to see Bruce take a step back from WWE to (a) improve the product, and (b) have better STWW shows

Bruce is not a writer, he's that guy that has big ideas that he can shout out in a room. The problem with WWE is that they have a bunch of writers that have no clue about how wrestling works becuase they wrote on TV shows etc.

Well, I have ordered All Out for tonight. Might not be able to watch it live, but shouldn't be hard to avoid spoilers if I try. My first non-WWE PPV ever. They’ve been doing things right and I’m curious. So we shall see how it goes. Still not something I’m prepared to give 50+ to on the regular. But, I had some stock piled apple gift cards. So no real harm done in giving it a shot.
