If Marleau wasn’t getting paid this season already I would guess they would just split whatever is left to finish the roster. But yeah Marleau probably takes minimum and Thornton will likely take the rest (up to a reasonable level).

If Thornton wants to keep playing he should take a 1M deal, they've been overpaying him for awhile now.

The loss of Pavelski is huge for them.

I'm surprised the NHLPA hasn't lodged a complaint with the league.

Maybe he just wants to win with those guys also. People make it sound like it's hard to live off a million bucks a year. Absurd.

Don’t know about that, Hossa took a similarly ridiculous discount to chase a cup with Detroit, and that wasn’t even that long ago.

With State tax, Escrow and agent fees he is probably making closer to 400k

That contract he had was 13.14% of the cap. That's the equivalent of a 10M+ contract today. Not sure it's very comparable.

Oh no, his contract was a one year 7.5 million dollar deal.

How is that a comparable? The term wasn't there, but Hossa got paid the big bucks to play in Detroit. Labanc doesn't have the term, nor the actual salary that he is worth. Huge risk for him IMO.
I wouldn't mind a flames player taking this type of discount though.

Yeah, which tied him with Lidstrom for the Red Wings highest salary. Top 10 for cap-hit in the league.

Are you saying that several teams made him offer sheets?

I assume he's talking about when Hossa signed with Detroit.
