Stampede Cancelled
Seems to deserve its own thread:
Quote:
We are extremely sad to announce that we are unable to host the 2020 Calgary Stampede. While this is a difficult announcement to share, we know it is the right thing to do.
We promise this does not mean the end of Stampede Spirit in our community this year, and we are now shifting our focus to fall, winter and spring events at Stampede Park, as well as planning for the 2021 Stampede.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Keep your hats on!

So do we dress up those 10 days anyways?
Who's the entrepreneur here, start making t-shirts.
COVIDing can't stop STAMPEDing.

I wonder why they delayed the decision so long.

I don't take in a lot of Stampede festivities usually but it is certainly going to be weird without the Stampede happening. I wonder if people will still dress like cowboys and if businesses will still paint their windows.

Makes sense, even the most optimistic projections wouldn't have international travel opened up by July.
That said, maybe if things go well enough we could do a sort of 'locals-only' mini stampede. Actually sounds kind of fun.

I would bet it’s called insurance. Understanding all of the liabilities and benefits of canceling at each point in time were probably evaluated which would have taken some time.

After Mardi Gras essentially seeded the Louisiana outbreak I can't say I'm surprised.

Take a step back man. Hundreds of thousands of people enjoy it and its an economic driver. Its not my cup of tea either, but I wish The Stampede absolutely no ill will.

Well they had to cancel it, these numbers are massive now, Calgary is a hot spot and we have had hundreds of new local cases in the last couple days. Certainly Alberta will not be opening up anytime soon, regardless of the optimistic projections further up the thread.

Wasn't feasible, right call.
Will miss the atmosphere around town and musical acts, not so much the rodeo events themselves.
Just make it even bigger and better in '21. Bounce back in epic fashion!
