I have been watching the last few episodes and I am more impressed in how they are tackling things now, and fewer weird theories.

The only thing in the back of my mind is the whole swamp area. It seem plausible for ship wreck debris material to end up there, so I don’t know why they are reading so much into whatever they find.

Season finale last night.

Oh god I hope they dig a 200 ft deep, by 100 ft across pit.

Please let this show never end.

We stopped part way into season 2. A week ago I watched the special of the show’s top 25 finds. I enjoyed that. I may catch the odd episode again.

I am starting to think that this is just an early viking settlement or something. All of those booby traps are really just a medieval sewer system that the vikings devised.

No way the Vikings dug 100+ft down by hand, can't see them paving a huge area under the swamp either. Something happened there hundreds of years ago, surely there is no treasure left now (if there ever was one) but something happened.

That would certainly get the job done, I don't know how they would dig it though. The ground doesn't seem stable enough from all the tunneling to run an excavator in a pit. Imagine Gary trying to metal detect 50000 cubic metres of dirt!

Sad it's over. That was the last of our Sunday night shows. But ya, ambitious plans for digging next year, very much looking forward to seeing what they turn up.

Honestly thought a lot more was going to come of the swamp this year, really quite surprised they didn't find more than they did.

The toonie migrating 10 feet was interesting.

The swamp at the end of the day is really interesting. Adds a lot of questions to who and when. As much as I laughed off the Templar stuff, makes you wonder if they did manage to come over. They were active 1100 to 1300 which lines up with the swamp.

I'm more sporadic now, but I'm basically convinced that Samuel Ball found the treasure and it's all gone.

My wife has been in this camp since the first time he was mentioned on the show.

I've posted before that there is so much middle school nostalgia for me in this show.

Some of the Carbon dating is well odd.

I abandoned this show 2-3 years ago although I have an interest in the story (I’ve actually been on the island). The show seemed to be doing nowhere. Maybe I should give it another go.

I won't say it is going "anywhere", it continues to spin tires but there are some oddities that can't be overlooked.

For example, they found a road buried in the swamp and tht has generated some odd carbon dating.

I spend a month "studying" this in grade 8 (or maybe 9) so I can't look away

I tend to watch just the last couple of episodes of each season, just to see what they found and bypass the hokey medieval knights and weird theories.

When my kids ask if they've found anything, I tell them next episode will probably be the one. Lots going on this year, so many super odd things they constantly turn up will keep me recording on my PVR and watching when no one is around.

My kids asked about them finding anything and I showed them the gift shop comedy sketch posted earlier in the thread. That sketch basically nails this show...and I'm too dumb to not watch.

What is the break-even point? They’re going to have to find a crapload of treasure to make this worthwhile.

Considering they have become staples of the history channel (long running show and a couple spinoffs) I think they are okay. Beyond that there is the aspect that they are uncovering a lot of man made things on the island that predate Columbus.

You are right though, grants or pay per episode from the History channel probably don't cover a whole lot of how much Marty is paying. I think I saw Marty is worth around 100M.
