9 straight saves to close the period for Wolf, including some dangerous chances. That’s good to see.

For me I find Kelly tries far too hard to be impartial. It's a home broadcast. You don't need to trip over yourself to compliment the opposition. You can mention how talented they are without going out of your way to emphasize it.

Iam a Wolf apologist and I am certainly too lazy to look it up. But how many goalies 22-24 in age become a 1a goalie.

Lots - goalies frequently don’t become anything noteworthy until 26-28.

Yes of course I have and I don't think he comes across the way you do.

As others have said I think he tries to be impartial (maybe to a fault) and also doesn't generally like to call players out. He also generally defends goalies, to no surprise.

I just find it funny how often we collectively make fun of the Oilers crew for being total homers, and then complain when Hrudey talks impartially.

As far the Oilers lean in general, I do think there's likely a directive from Sportsnet to talk up Edmonton because of McDavid as if his existence is enough for them to deserve success. I don't think Hrudey is any more guilty of it than the rest of the panel though.

Kelly is just a guy that likes hockey and tries to be cheerful about it. I'm not a huge fan of his but he tends to gush about an opposing team because he seems them less. He's not going to say new stuff about the Flames, who he watches 70+ times a year.

Also something interesting - in Florida Huby played 3:41, 4:19, 3:34, 3:25 AVG PPTOI for his 4 PPG+ years. In CGY, 2:52, 2:42.

At the game and frankly Huberdeau was the most creative player on the team. He had two bad passes, but a half dozen nice ones. One in particular had the crowd going.

He also dug hard and almost got a nice assist from behind the net after being taken down.

But overall the team is back to some bad habits. Kadri is doing too much by himself, the team is dumping way too much (and following with a single forechecker), the kids have kind of disappeared. Calgary has had territorial advantage but there’s been a few really scattered moments in their own end.

I met Kelly a few times and he was just such a nice guy. Made me not care who he actually cheers for.

Plus his job is to talk up the NHL especially in games like this between two teams going nowhere fast. But the gushing gets annoying sometimes when you see players doing nothing much and getting a chance on goal only to be praised like they were the second coming of Bobby Orr. Go ahead be colorful but sheesh don't just fabricate crap out of thin air. We ain't blind!

I think you hear what you want to hear.

I have a question.

Has Wolf ever hurt himself doing that jump thing he does before games?

Wolf doesn't really get hurt. That's one of my favorite things about him as a prospect. Compared to Gillies, Parsons, McDonald, Irving, etc.

Toughest job for the coaches, and the players too, is to be focused and put in a an honest effort for the rest of the season. The season is done, players are already thinking about next season, where they will vacation this summer, etc.

The brains aren't all there, and won't be from here on out. Tough just playing out the string.

Good for draft position though
