Yeah, I'm actually 'the other bidder.'

I can't actually afford it, I'm just driving up the price.

Maybe. Then again, maybe they'd be interested in a slightly used team if the price is right. Nicely stocked with some excellent young prospects.

Meruelo gets enough money to offset his losses, the other owners get shares of a nice fat relocation fee, and the team gets… uh… fans, plural.

Sounds like a win all around.

We've been over this. We've even designed the jerseys.

It'd have angry eye-brows and everything.

Aw...I've gotta copyright this!

Personally I think the Coyotes brand is beyond damaged in Phoenix. Relocate the Coyotes to Salt Lake City or Houston and add Phoenix to the list of potential future expansion cities.

I went to a game in Mullet Arena earlier this year and there is no other way to phrase it other than it’s incredibly embarrassing for the NHL to be in that facility.

My gut feeling is that "winning the auction" might only prolong the agony for Coyote fans in the area. And make it harder for the NHL to strongly encourage Meruelo to sell.

The Winnipeg/Atlanta scenario was a little different. The Thrashers owners complained about losing money and were known to be looking for new investors and considering a possible sale.

Not the fact pattern here.

We could also go with the "Sodium Chloride Dihydrogen Monoxide Repositoriums!"

Their logo could just be a puddle.

To celebrate a playoff win, fans will toss salt licks they smuggled into the arena onto the ice.

BSD would need to be one of their netminders.

They'll take him in the Expansion draft.

You have no clue.

This is like 5-15 minutes from some of the wealthiest people in AZ who are actually hockey fans.

In context to Glendale location, why would this be a better location that could yield better turnout?

Part of the criticism of Glendale was that it was brutal to get to for a 7pm weekday game.

This location isn't much better.

The 101 is absolutely gridlocked from 3-6 pm. I was commuting from Mesa to TPC Scottsdale in February and started looking for a rental place the same week, the traffic was that bad.

Yes, it's closer to the rich folk in North Scottsdale, but that's about it.

The Tempe location was far better for accessibility.

Anyone else reading this thread feel like this is an episode of 'The Californians'?

That land is right across Scottsdale Road from Grayhawk. It's a couple miles (street miles) from TPC Scottsdale.

It really isn't. It's moving it from one corner of the metro area to another. No where near being central. The only thing going for it is the proximity to Scottsdale and Paradise Valley money. Unfortunately there is a big argument over whether those citizens are the ones spending money on NHL hockey. Seems there is more support from the locations where club teams and hockey families reside which makes a location hard to pick if it is about hockey. The problem is this isn't really about hockey, it's about real estate development and secondary revenue streams. Scottsdale provides biggest opportunity for spin off real estate development and cashing in big.

Sounds like they just need to build it underground, with a golf course & resort on top. Problem solved.

Bingo! this is a HIGH, HIGH end location and Alex Meruelo will clean up if he builds a new Scottsdale Quarter/Kierland like development - I lived right across the 101 from this location for a couple of years. The team wouldn't need a single fan to attend a game and he'll still be profitable.

Glendale would be a KIA and this would be a Ferrari if you want to compare.
