Is there a better old-boys club to be in then NFL coach? I'm sure Jeff Fisher will be getting hired next cycle.

Have you seen what happens when teams choose unproven coaches?
Just have a look at the FOI forum and the comments about how the Flames are too cheap to get a real coach and how Ward is a bargain hire garbage coach.
That's why coaching positions are an old boys club.

He's also rumored to be in the mix for the job at U of Tennessee.

For me I think he's the cut off for Hall of Fame in not getting in. Great career and all, but his passing numbers have to be compared to others who played in the same era. He never made a Superbowl, never won a MVP, and only ever got to one Conference Championship game. He didn't play at the same time as guys like Marino or Moon so his numbers being better than theirs really should not be that much of a factor. In his era passing was allowed to flourish with pass interference being enforced, and the chance to get easy first downs on 5 yard defensive holding penalties. So he's up against the likes of Brady, both the Mannings, Rogers, Roethlisberger, Brees, and to a lesser extent guys like Farve and Warner who preceded him by a few years but lapped into his playing days a bit. I don't think Eli Manning should get in either, but having won two Super bowls likely will benefit him, and those other guys will or have got in. It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of good solid long career.

I don't think he deserves to get in but if you let in Eli Manning then how do you leave out Rivers who was superior in every single statistical category over the exact same timeline? I know that people will bring up the Super Bowl wins but is it the NFL Hall of Fame or the NFL Playoff Hall of Fame. Jim Plunkett won two Super Bowls and a Super Bowl MVP and he's not in so to me it seems like as with the NHL the voting turns into a popularity contest. The way the rules are we are going to see all statistical passing records smashed over the generations and I'm not sure longevity should get you into the HOF as then you have to let in Matt Ryan, etc. I just think Eli Manning was so thoroughly mediocre for half his career that it's kind of a travesty for him to get in while leaving out better NFL QB's like Rivers or Ryan.

Pass happy era or not....he will still get in and get in easy i believe.
Yards wise he is ahead of guys like Elway, Roethlisberger, Marino, Montana etc.
But also in TD's and completion %.
There is really no argument against him other than no super bowl. Lots of guys get in without winning one because that is seen as more of a team accomplishment than it is individual. Rightfully so.
Great player for a long time who is top 5-10 in all major categories they get measured by...again i think its a slam dunk.

The standard I've usually used for determining if someone is a HOFer is: Where they ever one of the three best at their position at any point in their career? And I struggle to think of when I would have considered Rivers to be that. He never even made a second team All-Pro. Maybe that's too high a standard, but I prefer too tough than making it more of a Hall of Very Good.

New Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell received a six-year contract from the team, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
The Lions announced Campbell's hiring on Wednesday but did not disclose terms. The team will introduce him with a news conference on Thursday.

IMO you can't look at QB the same way, as it's so much more of a valuable position. I'd fully expect more QB's in the HOF than left guards or strong safeties.
Rivers was never All Pro but he played QB at a very high level for a long time. 8X pro bowl selection as a QB has to count for something.
Personally I'd vote him in.

Wonder if Indy goes into next year with Brisset and drafts a QB for the future this year? Maybe a guy like Stafford becomes available as this team is ready to win now

Pro Bowls should never count, no offense to the average fan but....yeah. I definitely think it's close for Rivers, and I won't care all that much if he gets in. I just don't think I'd make him a HOFer if it were my call. But with that said I could be persuaded he deserves it. On first glance though, don't see it. He is a first ballot lock in the child producing HOF though.

No way does he get in easily. If he gets in, I don't believe he does, it will take years. He will likely still on lists of nominees and go through the various steps of the selection process but I think it would take some time for him to get voted in.

It isn’t just that Rivers didn’t win a super bowl
He made 1 championship game in his career.
And he had some good teams . In a lot of those playoffs he was the problem
Hard no for HoF for me

He won't be first ballot. I don't think Eli Manning will be first ballot and he will get in before Rivers. A lot of voters like to make players that aren't no-brainers to wait a year or longer. I heard a media member with credentials state on Sirius NFL radio that he will likely vote in Eli Manning but it won't be his first year eligible.

I really want to see Stafford getting a chance somewhere else. If anyone deserves a change in scenary its him.
