Panarin declares he won't discuss re-signing with the BJs until after this season
Blue Jackets now have to decide whether to go for it with Panarin on the roster or trade him before the deadline.
Dan Milstein-Hockey@ HockeyAgent1
Statement about Artemi Panarin’s future “We have informed the team that we are willing to discuss Artemi’s future after the season. Our priority now is to focus on the rest of the season, trying to win a Stanley Cup for the CBJ & their fans”. No additional comments will be made..

Hes done in CB so is Bob. If they where smart they would trade them both and get some good players & prospects for the future, but we all keep hearing that they wanna keep them and try and go for playoff run risk of losing them

If I was a Jackets fan I'd want them to sell both of them and get something in return. They don't have anywhere near a strong enough team letting both of them walk away for free.

Panarin going to a rival could potentially be devastating and they'd surely want to send him out west so hopefully he just stays put.

They should try to get something at the trade deadline for each of them. Neither of them seem to want to be there at all. I’m sure the GM can see the writing on the wall.
What is good enough at the deadline though for those guys?
Will teams spend a 1st plus on these rentals? I don’t think I would want the Flames to do that for either of them knowing they could walk after the season is over.

BJ’s are stuck in a tough spot here. Realistically they should be trading him for all he’s worth at the deadline. But they’re 4 points out of the division lead with a game in hand and that trade would be self sabotaging their own season. There’s no way I can see any owner, GM, coach or player be onboard with that.
I don’t see Panarin moving at the deadline.

The BJs need to trade Panarin for sure and recoup something for him at the deadline. Because in the summer he’s gonna be a Ranger or a Blackhawk.

It almost feels (there’s no proof) like Tortorella doesn’t like Russian players. They don’t want to play for him. Seems to be the case (to me, anyway).

No, can't see it. As fans we see maximizing return and moving players out at the right time as obvious, but you have to remember there's way more at play for a professional sports organization. Moving stars out when you're a contender is going to destroy that locker room's faith and relationship with the team going forward.
Almost zero chance they do it unless they can get a star in return but what team is going to do that when Panarin's going to free agency.
My guess is Panarin and Bobrovski will both be part of the run and then will become two of the biggest FA's this summer.

This would be an epic management failure.
I can't see jarmo signing up for that.

Why is it a failure to retain your own pending UFA for a playoff run but it’s ok for another team to trade a big package?
It makes more sense for CBJ to keep those two and consider them their own in house rentals.

They should, but reports seem to indicate they haven’t decided which direction they want to go yet

It’s a much bigger failure to flush away your season. You play to win the game.

It’s a tough spot to be... thinking big picture I think they should take the assets they can get for the two of them. That said, Columbus needs to win a playoff series at some point and could possibly do so this year.
Either way, I really can’t see either player with them next year.

Yeah I agree. I can see them trading one but not both.
As a perennial loser organization that has just barely established itself as a playoff team giving up on the season now would be a slap in the face for the fans.

Playoffs are the cash cow for most teams. A team not swimming in wealth like Columbus would not easily risk their opportunity to make it. Especially when they are the second best team in their division (point percentage wise).
Even Calgary knew that it would have been beneficial to trade Iginla earlier and go for that rebuild instead of fighting for that last playoff spot, but it's a tough decision to make to give up completely on playoff revenue.

Would do our 1st for Panarin, maybe even 1st +. Imagine him with Tkachuk

Doubtful the Flames part with their 1st round pick this year.

I think there would be a lot of other teams willing to give up more than a 1st for Panarin anyways.
Will be interesting if he just goes back to Chicago and Chicago ends up with a top pick. Could be a very quick turnaround for Chicago, unfortunately. Although they need to address their GA more than anything else.

I'd be shocked if they traded him.
