Remember Akim Aliu, who had a cop of coffee with the Flames a couple of years ago? Karlskrona HK recruited him two months ago, but after only playing six games with in the SHL, he got sent away (No news on why. I saw him live a couple of times, and he wasn´t THAT bad, perhaps just not as good as the pay check...) to second tier league IK Pantern. Today he got fired from the later, after a game against AIK.

Apparently, after the game, on his way to the dressing room, he started hitting and tearing down furnitures while screaming out profanities in english. The goalie from AIK then asked what he was doing, and Aliu responded with hitting him right in the face.

- I was lucky I still had my mask on, says Erik Källgren to swedish newspaper Expressen.

Pantern has issued a statement on the clubs home page, reffering to an "off-ice incident that we as a club, and our values can´t get behind. Therefore we terminate the contract with immediate effect."
Edit: Looks like someone beat me to it.

There's no doubt Aliu ended up being a difficult teammate everywhere. But IMO a lot of that stemmed from the original hazing incident which he properly refused to take part in and the reaction from teammates and his organization. It probably set him down a "me against everyone" path. He went from a number 5 ranked player to being picked 57 in the draft. And his attitude probably was evident in Rockford and that's why Peters didn't like him, leading to Peters being a complete dick and using racism to (IMO) send a supposed message to his bad apple.

Stuff that happens in junior has an effect for a whole career. It crippled Sheldon Kennedy and cost Fleury a huge chunk of a career. Look at Mike Danton.

No doubt, ya gotta feel for the kid who had his hopes and dreams crushed by some awful people along the way.

Looks like Aliu maybe taking or considering taking some legal action now.

TSN spotted Aliu and a notable sports litigation lawyer entering the NHLPA offices in Toronto today.

I know nothing about Illinois law (obviously) but I presume he will have a difficult limitation period hurdle to overcome (if indeed he is considering a claim against Peters personally and the Ice Hogs organization). Perhaps he is getting advice regarding defending potential defamation claim from Peters (though such a claim seems highly unlikely in the circumstances)? Who knows?

I have a feeling it was Aliu’s phone that rang.
