So the question is was this to help keep Tavares, or is this going to push him out the door.

I'm going to assume that this means that JT is going to hit the market and Snow and Weight are paying for that decision.

Maybe unfortunate for Weight but Snow had to go. I wouldn't assume anything about Tavares as for all we know this greatly helps the Islanders chances of retaining him as it's pretty clear he didn't see eye to eye with how Snow was building the team. I imagine Lou is going to table a strong offer as well as his plans to improve the roster that obviously differ from Snow's.

"The New York Islanders would like to thank both Garth and Doug for their dedication to the franchise," Lamoriello said. "Both started their tenures with the franchise as players and grew as tremendous leaders to the positions they held."
The team said both will remain with the Islanders organization.

Friedman and Marek were speculating that Snow has some ridiculous clause in his contract that pays him a lot if he gets fired.
Maybe remaining with the organization is a way around that.

Oh yeah, a complete managerial circus is a great way to show your superstar that your organization isnt comprised of complete clownshoes idiots.
Granted Edmonton did the exact same thing when they drafted McDavid...

Landing spot for AV? He wouldn't have to relocate. But if they are being cheap, that wouldn't work.

Maybe the owner thinks that a team will send them draft picks to hire Snow? Oilers may want to hire him if only to examine how he continues to fleece them in trades.

I would think this is a move to make JT stay.
Garth Snow has done nothing but have a gong show going on for a decade. Wouldn't JT be more motivated to stay now?

Taking a while to get to 5000

I'm sure Snow will enjoy his new role as the highest paid pro scout in the NHL. As for Weight, maybe he coaches in Bridgeport? Works in some player development capacity?
Also, I doubt this move has any impact positive or negative towards Tavares' decision.

I think this is right. This, plus hiring Lou, tells JT that they are trying to stabilize the management. I'd be interested if they are asking him for his thoughts on a new coach.

The bigger question is why do the Islanders hang onto these dud GMs so long? Milbury was there from 1995-2006 and then Snow was there from 2006-now. That's 23 years straight of inept management from just 2 guys. I don't get the strategy here?
Lou's old school but he's a massive upgrade

Interesting, I didn't know about this. I'd like to read more on this, who reported this?
