Flames Flames loan Zavgorodniy to St. Petersburg (KHL)

Good more prospects playing , the better.

Ryan Pike @RyanNPike
Sounds like the #Flames and Dmitry Zavgorodniy's camp are working on a loan for the player in Russia. The winger isn't with the QMJHL's Rimouski Oceanic as an overager, and the intention is for him to go pro whenever the NHL/AHL seasons begin.

News Update

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
The #Flames are assigning prospect Dmitry Zavgorodniy to SKA St. Petersburg (KHL).

Makes sense. I was surprised not to hear any loans by the flames yet. Get the prospects some playing time, to minimize impact on development.

They already announced the loan of Tuulola to the Allsvenskan in Sweden.

Pospisil is playing with a Slovak team but no announcement from the Flames.

Ruzicka is training with a Slovak team but according to that team's release it hasn't been decided if he would play any games.

Oh yes. How did I forget about Tuulola.

Good to hear that Pospisil and Ruzicka are getting some training time.

Zavgorodniy is one of the prospects that impressed me the most at camp.

Hopefully he continues to develop as he could be an impact NHLer IMO.

Zavgorodniy is a very impressive prospect indeed. Just submitted my top-20 prospects list for a roundtable piece we're doing over at FN and Little Z rounds out my top-10 with the potential to really scoot up the list ahead of guys like Ruzicka, Nikolayev and Phillips if he shows well in pro. Really excited to see how he does in Russia and then in Stockton. Love me a RHS RW.

I don't think he will.
The Flames have a serious need for skilled right-shooting RW, which Zavgorodniy is. I'm sure he sees the opportunity that exists on the roster. Plus he came to play in the CHL, which probably means he's looking to get into the NHL.
Obviously a lot of Russians have come over for CHL, only to return, but that's after trying for a few years unsuccessfully.

Not to mention he proved his commitment and dedication to the Flames/NHL by staying in Calgary over the last couple summers before COVID to train.

There should be very little-to-no worry about him not coming back over

Until he meets a nice Russian girl who's babushka is not thrilled with the idea of the you couple living in the godless west.

Sorry for the pessimism. I'm a Flames fan.

Three assists in his KHL debut for Little Zav!

Not a bad way to start. He got 11:16 of icetime.

I have high hopes this guy can become for us what Palat has for Tampa. Great pick in the 7th round.

That is really impressive. For reference the KHL NHLe is currently set at 0.804, compared to 0.486 in the AHL.

So, he should be good for 2.4 points per game in the NHL!

Zavgorodniy will be an NHLer.
