From watching more of Quinn and liviing in enemy territory, I would give it to Quinn. But I have not seen much of Makar after he took over and was a difference maker in our playoffs last year.

I think this is what it will come down too. Who was watched by the voters more. It's hard to fathom that there are two rookie defense men who have played up to this level this season. If you watched more of one, it would be very easy to say "No way the other kid has been this good though."

Makar v. Hughes is about as 50/50 as you can get.

Early on I thought Makar was going to run away with this, but as the season went on, it really became a toss-up. I could see either guy winning, and I don’t think I’d be shocked either way. If I had a vote, I might give the slight edge to Hughes.

Not as close as I thought the vote would be. Kind of surprising.

There isn't a wrong answer - except for the people who had Hughes ranked third. Sure some other players had very good rookie seasons, but some of those picks lead to me to think that they were local reporters voting for their player and not the best player.

Also Ethan Bear - okay player. Good bottom pairing defenseman right now who makes a large number of gaffs but has raw talent. How some can say he is the third best rookie is embarrassing to me.

I mean, everyone who voted for Hughes had Makar as second. Pretty much everyone who voted for Makar had Hughes as second. So everyone had them ranked the same way. I'd say that's pretty close.

I don't think there was a wrong answer here. Even Kubalik would have been a pretty good choice in average years. Makar has a lot more flash and that's usually a great boon for awards like this. What makes Hughes so good is just how calm and poised he is defensively, which isn't really a flashy thing. They're both going to be real good.

Some homer votes there. I don't know what is worse, Bear getting a third place vote or some one in Edmonton thought Bear is the third best player on that list.

Gurianov almost had more goals (20) than Bear points (21), which I thought was amusing.

I guess I expected the gap of first place votes to be closer than 116 to 53. Around 70% of the Voters had Makar first.

He got more than double the first place votes...it wasn't close

I imagine some Edmonton writers said “what the hell, it’s not going to affect anything - throw him a vote”.

They should revoke voting privileges from people that make obviously stupid choices. Like seriously who thought Ethan Bear was the third best rookie in the NHL this year? Take it seriously, or you don't get to vote.
