Maroon would be good. There is no way he signs for as cheap as last year, but hopefully we get him for a decent price.

^^ Me too. I recall them being interested last year but then he went to St. Louis. Surprised when the Blues made him available mid season that the Flames didn't jump back in.

Nick Ritichie (Ducks) not a free agent this year.

Flames will probably be looking at players that don't get picked up and overpaid in free agency. Their options will surely by limited unless they are able to move somebody out.

I think that would be regrettable. I mean, he hasn't hit 40 points in his career.

I wonder what Maroon is looking for? I was surprised to see he has never had a cap hit above $2 million.
I don't think that will be true on his next contract.

The other interesting wrinkle in this is his family situation. It has been widely reported for a few years now that Maroon was desperate to be close to St Louis where his son lives. I wonder if the situation has changed to allow him more freedom of movement.

Too much for my liking. While he was a nice playoff story his regular season play was not great and now he's achieved his dream I'm not sure what his motivation level will be like going forward. To me he looks like a guy that could fall off the map at any time and become a fringe player.

I agree that this is a player the Flames would need to be cautious about signing, but as to the bolded, it's not like Maroon was ever just chasing a dream. He has never made big NHL money, and he still needs to work. I suspect his primary motivation is still ensuring that he can make NHL money. That itself is a reason to be leery since he will most likely take the highest offer, but it isn't fair to to posit that now he has won a Stanley Cup he will be content to coast into the sunset.

My concern with Maroon would be Neal syndrome.
Big guy who plays a hard game and with the aspirations of the Flames organization, to idea is to play a lot of hockey next spring. Now you have an older guy, who plays a hard game, who has played a ton of hockey in a calendar year.
Or who knows, may its harder mentally to play all that hockey, and not win. Than it is to get rewarded after the gruel fest.

The only way this makes sense is if Neal isn't on the roster. I don't think we have the roster space for both of them.
If Duchene does go to Nashville I feel like Neal for Turris makes some sense for both sides.
Nashville would have:
Center:
Johansen: $8M
Duchene: $9M+
Turris: $6M
Bonino: $4.1M
Sissions RFA
So not sure any team really wants to have $27M of cap in centers including $10M for your bottom 6 centers and don't have as much depth at RW. Could re-unite Neal with Jarnkrok on their 3rd line and hope they can re-kindle past chemistry.

If the idea of the Flames offersheeting Marner make sense given the Leafs cap situation, and the Flames in turn end up in the exact same situation as the Leafs due to the offersheet, why would another team not take the same advantage? Especially as they wouldn't get any blood on their hands.

You must be reading it differently than me
It sounded like the suggestion was to unload Brodie or Frolik, and Offer Sheet Timo Meier something in the neighbourhood of their now-alleviated salary

Yep, only if we have the cap space And assuming those two are gone, offering $5.5 or something will really put SJS in a tough spot.

the Athletic reporting Isles and Lehner are still far apart in contract negotiations and Lehner's future might be with another team
https://theathletic.com/1050802/2019...-be-elsewhere/
Also of note, the article mentions the Isles have contacted Talbot as a potential replacement but might miss out on him. Bobrovsky could be Lou's plan if he picks the Isles over the Panthers.

Flames have to give a go at Lehner dont they? Good fit age wise. Again, money may be the sticking point but I'd make room somehow.
