I guess this is the year then. You can't negotiate a year to year contract and then complain when it's not renewed.

I suspect they will bring him back for some sort of tribute.

Was Maher on a year to year contract as well? Because if so, there's no such thing as "notice". And if not, you get severance in lieu of notice.

That is often entirely true, but not in this case. Don Cherry needs to retire. It should have happened years ago.

Which I always take. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't rather have someone I enjoyed on.

I have been watching Coach's Corner since I was a little kid. Used to love the old "Rock 'Em Sock 'Em" videos that he used to release ever year in the 80's and 90's too. Will definitely be sad to see Grapes go, if true.

But... the article also states that Doug MacLean is gone too. So, good news/bad news?

Next up, Ron MacLean!

If they insist on cutting people let's just make the intermissions Ryan Leslie, Elliotte Freidman and Brian Burke. Everyone else is dead weight

The good part is that it'll leave more time for Cassie Campbell.

Yeah stop watching his tired antics and wait for Rogers to get the hint.

If anything, they will reduce Cherry to a couple times a month thing or so for a final year.

And if money is a problem, maybe stop flying Hrudey out every week back and forth to Toronto, or the 60 days they put him up in a hotel for the playoffs. He can do his intermissions from here via satellite...actually having him sit there in person, though I am sure he likes the comradarie off camera watching the games each Saturday night with those guys, provides no additional value for his job as an analyst.

I think we could solve a great many of the world's problems if we rounded up the richest 1500 people, killed them and took all their stuff, and I hope Don Cherry is on the air forever.

Ron and Don were getting really good salaries back in the CBC days, I remember back in 2003-2004 or so when the CBC was looking at cutting their costs, they finally settled on a contract of approx $500k a year I believe?

If Don is still pulling that kind of dough and even more due to inflation, great for him but I can see how from a pure expense play, a suit would love to cut some coin.

The issue with Cherry is that a LOT of fan's love him!! A lot of older people do and a lot of people who are in their 30's as well, a lot don't due to his style, his politics or how he brings religion into it. Others don't like him cause he's always telling stories about the old days and a lot of people who considering themselves forward thinkers forget sometimes that the past ends up mimicking the future.

I am 34, I grew up watching the guy ever since I was a little child, I love watching him, it's an absolute shame that he isn't in the Hall of Fame as a builder or broadcaster. Like I said earlier, people don't like him due to his politics, his religion and his views on a lot of things in the game.

Rogers Sportsnet is a hot garbage product all around and cutting more quality people like Cherry and some others isn't going to do anything other than become a race to the bottom.

Also I should mention that Cherry does a huge amount of work for the community and I believe I have read he donates his salary to charity as well!!

If Sportsnet was smart (they aren't) and had the cajones (they don't) instead of just trotting out Brian Burke as a Don Cherry ripoff they should try something different.

Have a 1st intermission consisting of Sean Avery, Paul Bissonnette and Mike Commedore.

Give them the OK to talk trash on ex and current players and whatever else they want to talk about. Bad calls, bad plays, great plays whatever. Keep it loose. Not so formal.

It would be something people actually watch and talk about.
