President Donald Trump said Friday that his administration "can get around the media when the media doesn't tell the truth, so I like that."
The president was referring to his Twitter account. But recently he has taken steps to control news coverage.
The Trump administration has given preferential access to favorable outlets while excluding others -- a move critics say is dangerously reminiscent of state-controlled media.
In the latest incident, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson invited Fox News to cover his meeting at the Korean Demilitarized Zone, on the North-South Korea border, but denied access to the press pool that provides all media outlets with an account of the secretary's activities.
Now even further digging has suggested some of the "proverb" is from as far back as the 1930's, but there's absolutely nothing that suggests it's Irish at all. Someone (or multiple people) on his staff just appear to be ####ing with him at this point.

I don't think it's even that. I think it's a combination of laziness and just not really caring. There was a tweet from a former Obama staffer who said (paraphrasing) that for St. Patrick's Day, they would read through the literature of writers like Yeats, Heaney and Joyce and so on and find something appropriate and meaningful, whereas someone in this administration just did a quick google search and found a geocities site with Irish proverbs.

On the heels of a visibly awkward visit from the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, Donald Trump said on Saturday that Germany owed “vast sums of money” to Nato and the US, even though the alliance does not stipulate payments to America.
His remarks prompted a former US permanent representative to Nato to reply “that’s not how Nato works”, and to add that increased European spending on defense was not a “favor (or payment) to the US”.
Trump, who was at his Mar-a-Lago estate for the weekend and spending the morning at Trump International Golf Course, sent two tweets early in the day. The first denounced “the FAKE NEWS” for what he said was mistaken coverage of a “GREAT” meeting with Merkel.

“All Nato countries, including Germany, have committed to spend 2% of GDP on defense by 2024. So far five of 28 Nato countries do. Those who currently don’t spend 2% of their GDP on defense are now increasing their defense budgets. That’s a good thing.
“But no funds will be paid to the US. They are meant to increase Nato’s overall defense capabilities, given the growing Russian threat. Europe must spend more on defense, but not as favor (or payment) to the US. But because their security requires it.”

I can't speak to his journalism prior to CNN, and while he may be the best news presenter on CNN, I feel as though he is borderline unwatchable. I feel as though he takes himself more seriously than he takes his subject matter and that's basically a recipe for missing the mark.
Defending fox news as a news organization may score you some points for being impartial but it scores you negative points for having a clue.

With two months into his presidency, Donald Trump’s ratings continue to fall. The commander in chief’s approval rating fell to a new low over the weekend to 37 percent, according to the latest Gallup poll. That marks a sharp drop from the 45 percent of a week earlier and comes as Trump’s disapproval rating hit 58 percent, also a high point since the real estate mogul was sworn into office.
Needless to say, those are the worst numbers for any president this early in his administration in the history of modern polling.
Angela Merkel strikes me as the the last woman in the world I'd ever want to have tear a strip off me. Smart, ruthless sounding German accent, and a hint of grandma in her face that would leave me saying only "yes, ma'am".
