Yeah I was riding this train hard to start the season. I think he'd be an ideal candidate to fill the RW spot with Johnny and Mony, especially since Lindy-Tkachuk is getting their share of the harder matchups. Dube coming back will help but Pelletier could have been a really interesting addition.
Honest question, I know Brett Ritchie isn't great but at this point would he not fit better than Lucic? Essentially plays the same role (outside of Lucic's weird PP usage, which Bennett could take) and his being in the lineup as a RHS means a guy like Bennett goes back to his natural wing.
Sure, a young player like Phillips or Gawdin would be better received by the fanbase, but its pretty clear management/coaches want the Lucic style of player in that lineup night in and night out.
I would rather see Robinson than Lucic at this point.

I am not sure that we need to 'accept that this is the kind of player they want in the lineup'
I mean, they clearly want a heavyweight in the lineup, in addition to having one in the wings.
Rinaldo, Lucic, Ritchie, Engelland (I think he fits the description), Prout, Bollig, Petrovic and I'm sure I'm missing others
If they honestly believe that Lucic is one of the 12 best forwards, well, thats a little scary. Especially with some talented young players or even a few proven vets that could slot in.
Issue with Lucic is by the second half of the season for us last year he was actually quite valuable for the team, so coaching staff is giving him a little more leash.
He's really struggled to start this season but I think the coaching staff thinks he needs some game time to get his legs going after a weird offseason and no real training camp/preseason games.
He wasn't nearly as bad in the two games against Vancouver but had two bad games against Winnipeg and Toronto where he arguably cost us points.

I think they are thinking wrong. Lucic might not be one of the best 12 players on an ECHL roster right now. His game is just brutal. I would be okay with Ritchie getting into the lineup over Lucic. I would be okay with them leaving Lucic out of the lineup all together and skating a man short on the 4th line, kind of like playing with an automatic out in baseball/softball. He's that much of a detriment.
Lucic has unquestionably not looked good, but I think there is still some latitude for giving him the time to work through it. When he is not making stupid mistakes and moving his feet, he still thinks the game at a much higher level than replacement-players like Ritchie or Nordstrom, and he can still make plays.
I am guessing that Flames coaches believe they can still get Lucic going.

Someone should start a North-Canada-Scotiabank Thread. It will be a lot easier to keep track of all the cheap shots by Tkachuk over the course of the season.
Honestly, a thread dedicated to Canadian teams b******* and whining over everything Tkachuk does on a daily basis would be hilarious to read.
