Apparently HBO Go (their streaming service) couldn't handle all the traffic for the finale and crashed lol.

That show left a hole in my soul, but as strange as it may sound it was in a good way. I still have an emotional connection to other series, but this might be the best executed television program I have ever had the privilege of watching.
Would Matthew McConaughey be the first actor to win an Oscar and Emmy in essentially the same category within a calendar year? Heck, would he be the first to win both at all?

I wish I could have the galaxy/wormhole hallucination that Rust had in the heart of Carcosa all the time. I would just walk around in constant amazement.

He would be the first man to win both in the same year. Helen Hunt and Helen Mirren both have done it.

Its' renewal is all but done. The word is they won't announce a renewal until they land the actors/director.

they left it wide open for S2, at the end.
"We didn't get them all".
"That's not the way the world works".
Shouldn't the 2 new detectives that were interviewing the, kind of pick it all up.

The intent is to have each season be its own arc. New story, new setting, new actors.

As has been stated, this story arc is over, so they didn't leave it open for that purpose so much as for thematic reasons. Things don't get wrapped up in a neat little bow where justice is served; it's not that type of TV show.

At first I thought they went by convention by letting Cohle live, but the dialogue at the end with Marty was amazing and just magnified the essence of that character (and, to an extent, Marty as well).

to retreat to the supernatural, or to take the easy dramatic route of killing a character in order to achieve an emotional response from the audience, I thought would have been a disservice to the story. What was more interesting to me is that both these men are left in a place of deliverance, a place where even Cohle might be able to acknowledge the possibility of grace in the world. Because one way both men were alike in their failures was that neither man could admit the possibility of grace. I don't mean that in a religious sense. Where we leave Cohle, this man hasn't made a 180 change or anything like that. He's moved maybe 5 degrees on the meter, but the optimistic metaphor he makes at the end, it's not sentimental; it's purely based on physics.

In a way, I absolutely agree with what Duff is saying. They left it open, but more so in the sense of setting the series on a course. They didn't get them all but as Marty said, "We got ours."
That line for me really set the series. It's not going to be vast and far reaching, but it's about detectives getting 'theirs.' This story is over, Marty and Rust did their part, and now it moves on to the next detectives.
For me, I'm kind of curious what direction they go in. New York and the 'big city' feel seems pretty played out, the dirty south was done perfectly, so I'd like to see something done in the Midwest, the Pacific Northwest, or somewhere like that. The environment played a really fantastic role.
As far as detectives go, I'd love to see a female detective. Might be a little fresh with the Killing having recently done that, but the Killing isn't even in the same playground as True Detective.
