That race broadcast left much to be desired. I miss the format and coverage of last season and really miss the calm educated commentary of David Coulthard. These guys don't realize that Nico wears the green gloves?....commenting Nico as Hamilton for an entire pit entrance, tire change and re entry onto the track.

Lewis needs to fix his starts, wow! beaten 5 times by Rosberg.

Agreed. Like the extra coverage. Wish we had last years in race guys though. And again, damn I wish the pre race guys would whine less.

That would have been the most exciting race ever if Mercedes and Ferrari weren't in it. Amazing how much overtaking compared to Melbourne.

Lewis really needs to spend the next 2 weeks practising starts if he wants to win a race. Qualifying doesn't mean anything if you can't get off the line.

Agreed about missing Coultard, so much better than these guys.

Nice to see Manor and Mclaren doing well, to bad Button and Alonso didn't have a chance. Some good signs for them, though.

Didn't realize Sauber was in financial difficulty. Hopefully they stick around.

Very happy that Nico won the race. I hope it continues, but I have a feeling once they start racing in Europe again, Hamilton will be back to his usual form.

Just finished Chinese qualifying. Once again Ferrari gets beat on strategy by Mercedes. Great to see Red Bull on he front row. Hopefully he warmer temperatures tomorrow, or rather tonight, allow Ferrari to make a race of it.

Wow, a real qualifying! Good show. Hamilton has his work cut out for him. Ya, Ferrari really bombs at the strategy game. They should have done a banker lap on the softs to see where it put them in Q2. Renault is really hurting.

What a wild race. The first half, anyway. Felt bad for Ricardo flatting early on. Amazing Vettel could concentrate on the race while holding on to that much anger the whole time! He was pissed after, but seams to now have seen Kvyat's side of it. So much good racing going on in the top 15 now.

I'm not sure I have ever seen a race with that much overtaking. I think the 3 tire strategy has really helped spice things up. Hamilton is going to have to start dominating if he wants to win this season. Rosberg is having all the car luck this year, but there are plenty of races to go.

Renault, what are you guys doing? Hanging out with the Manor's is not where you want to be.

I remember Sochi being boring last year, hopefully it is a bit more interesting this time around. Coming up to Monaco an Montreal soon, to of my favorites! Monaco is going to be interesting with so many cars this year.

Just bumping this to share an interesting article I read today. Half of it is basically gibberish because it talks about a lot of car/engine science that I don't understand. Nevertheless, it is really fascinating to me the insane level of technology involved in these cars.

http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/an...le-690156/?s=1

As I've seen alluded to elsewhere, this article once again mentions a big update for Renault, and by association Red Bull, in time for Canada. It was a predictable Mercedes 1-2 finish there last year and not a ton of action, outside of Vettel and Massa moving up the ranks. I will be over the moon if Red Bull and/or Ferrari or both can push Merc this year. It was my only complaint last year was that the race was never in doubt from the first second and it took away from some of the drama of seeing an f1 race live for the first time.

Russia this weekend. Hopefully it provides yet another interesting race. Despite Nico winning the first three I have no complaints so far in the entertainment category.

Interesting stuff! I'm of 2 heads on this, in that it's great that these innovations take place, but then they get out regulated and have to come up with something else. It means that the non-factory teams never get a chance to catch up, and can't afford to innovate no the bleeding edge.

I also wonder how much these will relate back to normal cars, given the writing on the wall is electrics are the future. It is also interesting how you can see that temperatures can really affect the teams in different ways. I know they talk about it during the race, but it's interesting to see why.

Back to F1... looking forward to race weekend! Given it is Sochi, I'm not expecting the grandest of races. I remember there being one interesting high speed corner, but not much else. Hopefully qually mixes up the grid a bit and Ferarri can have some reliability.

As expected, not all that exciting a race. Hamilton did well, considering where he started. Nico is on a serious streak, Hamilton needs to get some luck soon. Poor Vetal. He forgave Kvyat in China, I don't think he will be so forgiving getting hit twice this time! Not much tire strategy came into play.

Spain is coming up next, but the real excitement starts with Monaco/Montreal after!

Unfortunate to see that Ferrari may not be as close as they thought.

Too bad about McLaren Honda. They have the pace but their engine is a fuel pig and it means they have to run every lap in fuel conservation mode.

Hopefully we see some better racing in Spain.

Max Verstappen replaces Daniil Kvyat at Red Bull for the rest of the season.

Interesting. I can't see Red Bull putting up with Max's complaints though, so hopefully he keeps that to a minimum.

Watching FP2:
Martin Brundle "That horrible noise you just heard going past me was the McLaren Honda"

Can confirm. Did not sound like a well oiled machine. Apparently Honda says that sound is fine and normal.

EDIT:
Ha Ha, Button just rolled into the pit with an engine problem.

I'm on lap 31. Best race of the year. Perhaps I'm projecting my feelings on the fans but am I the only one who heard a loud cheer when Mercedes crashed? I guess they could have been cheering Sainz's great start but I was cheering that we'd have an actual battle for 1st. And so far no complaints. Full on 4 car battle for the lead. Awesome. God I pray the Renault engine upgrade means is is what I can look forward to in Montreal in a month.

Good for Max. Great race. Feel for Ricciardo tough breaks he's had recently.

I just want to mention what a jackass the pit lane reporter is for Sky. He confronts Christian Horner before the race and accuses him of ruining people's careers, basically saying it was a mistake to replace Kvyat. Well Red Bull's decision looks fine now doesn't it? An amazing drive by Verstappen. Not that I even think Kvyat isn't talented. It's just clear that Max is a special talent. Same guy confronted Totto Wulf before the race and told him that Bernie said a bunch of stuff, which was a lie, it was Martin Brundle that said it. Bernie just laughed it off. I'm starting to hate that guy.

Such an awsome and exciting race!
Ofcourse it helped that both Mercedes crashed out but man what an amazing day!
To keep Raikonen off for what? 20 laps? is just crazy! Raikonen was racing F1 when Max was only 3 years old. We all know Max is a special talent but I never ever thought he could do this, this early in his career.
First Dutchman to lead a lap, youngest driver ever to lead a lap and win a grand prix and the first ever Dutchman to win a Grand Prix!

It's opening news for every network overhere.
The Dutch commentator, who's doing F1 for over 25 years and saw Max' father Jos finish on the podium in Hungary in 1994, bursted out in tears in the final half of the last lap.

Great race, was nice to not have the Mercs running the show and see the others really race. Hamilton is going to have to find something that works soon. I felt the crash was more Rosberg's fault for closing the door so fast and extremely. Though looking at it, if Hamilton hadn't been hit he would have had to be on the brakes really hard to make the next corner. He probably couldn't have held the place.

Poor Ricardo. No luck. Max was very steady, he did well in qualifying Q2 and Q3, showed a consistency you usually only see in seasoned drivers.

Not a huge fan of the course, given the lack of passing locations, and I have to wonder if it would have been better if Pirelli had brought super softs instead of the hards. Would have given a chance for some big pushes when needed to make some passes on the guys on mediums.

Kimi is in second for points in the drivers championship, though I just don't think the Ferrari's have what it takes this year. I have no idea where Renault...errr. Tag Huer got the performance out of that engine, but good job. The Renault team cars are arse.

Really, Really looking forward to Monaco. Will be interesting to see how the ultra-soft's hold up.

Watched FP2 last night. Oh man, Monaco. Sooo good. Favourite course by far, love watching them race the streets. I was there a few years ago and programmed the course into my GPS so I could drive it. My wife humoured me. If you ever get the chance, drive or walk it. You can't do the whole thing as some are one way or no access around the casino, but you can find your way around all of it.

Annnnyay....The Red Bulls, particularly Ricardo are hot. Fastest FP2 time. The car just looks so planted and responsive compared to the others. Several crashes and missed corners, which is not to unusual for practice in Monaco. Looking forward to qualifying, hopefully I have time to watch it tomorrow night. Their is some talk of mixed weather on Sunday, which always makes Monaco interesting, as long as it isn't to heavy.

Oh the Ferrari looks bad. Hopefully they can figure out balance or something. Did not look great.
