Question Truck for parts - Help

Hey I need some help if anyone has some advice.

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 with 243,000km on it. I need to get rid of it today ideally.

The tires are good and it runs okay (outside of alternator and battery).

Problem is there is a rust hole in the frame, so it isn't suitable for road use. Ideally it could be parted out.

What is the best way to do this? Hoping to get $1000 or close to that for it. Worth more than that in parts, I just don't have the means to keep it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I'd try an auction. I had an old RX7 where the electrical was shot. I got it towed to an auction place, and they got rid of it. Some guy bought it for parts.

Yeah? I'll look into that thanks. Had a $150 offer from a junker but I feel like the tires alone are worth that.

Donate it to the Kidney Foundation or someone like that?

Also make sure you are being objective about the value of the parts. I have seen people do that- they spent $500 on tires a year earlier, but resale on used tires is a lot less than what you may have paid.

Agreed. Way too low.

Agree this could be a good back up plan. I think Kidney Foundation offers minimum $300 tax receipt for Calgary area, but number can be higher if car can be resold. They don't charge for the cost of removing the car either. I guess OP can always call and ask what they'd be able to offer.

OP did mention he thinks the tires are worth around $150 which does seem reasonable. Perhaps he might not get $1k, but I think some of what he's said so far make me feel his valuation isn't completely out to lunch.

For example - I replaced the fuel pump 4 years ago for $890. Gotta think you could sell that for $100 too. Maybe a donation is in order. Thanks for the advice.

You need to be realistic. You wont get someone to pay $100 to lift the bed off the truck and remove a four year old fuel pump.
