I was wondering about this. When is the last time somebody won an award in the same season they received a suspension? When voting happens you know a few people may use the suspension as a knock against the player when it's a close race and they need something to help make a decision.

It's the top defenceman award, not the most gentlemanly yet good defenceman award (even though that is what mark is anyhow, bogus suspension be damned).

the boys on the Spittin Chiclets podcast today were giving Gio a lot of love and even whispering about his shot at a Norris. it starts at the 15 minute mark if anyone wants to give it a listen

Taylor Hall got fined $5K for boarding last year.

I agree but I think Chris Pronger should have won the Conn Smythe in 2007 over Scott Niedermeyer. I would say his 2 game suspension played a part in the voting.

I know it was probably close so the suspension swayed it in Scott's favour.

Despite sitting for two, he picks up 3 points tonight and sits one point back of Chabot and Reilly for #1 in d-man scoring.

Over a PPG now
30 4 28 32 +18

Better +/- than the two guys above him.

Nordano is full steam ahead.

ALSO wow that snipe tonight!

Nope. Just the Conn Smythe.

Mike Johnson from TSN has Gio as his choice for the Norris at the 30 game mark

Gio with a shorthanded goal and a +2 in a 2-1 win today.

Just give the man the Norris already.

I think right now it’s a two player race. It’s Giordano and John Carlson. All the other top scoring defencement (Chabot, Reilly, Burns) are too offensive orientated and don’t play as many minutes. I think the two Tampa guys take votes from each other and so does Nashville’s crew. Ryan Suter I suppose has an outside shot.

Amazing to have a point per game defender who you can still say is better in the defensive zone than in the offensive.

How many of those top Norris candidates play the hard minutes Gio does? My guess is not many.

I mean seriously, is there ANY situation the guy can't do or play? He could probably play goalie fer chrissake if we wanted to pump up the save % numbers.

Don Cherry was giving Gio some Norris love on Coaches Corner this evening! Says Gio is not mentioned enough.

Yeah probably not in Toronto media for sure because they are pushing for Reilly.

I like to think Giordano's mentioned an appropriate amount.
