Jakob Silfverberg retiring

Played 12 seasons in the NHL, including on some good Anaheim teams. Only 33 so there's probably more to the story, I'd imagine. Not sure about his injury history?

I think the writing was on the wall, and he didn't want to play for league min, or accept a PTO to start next year.

I'll admit I don't watch the Ducks, but 19 points even on a dreadful team is still pretty bad for an ostensibly skilled guy. He's actually been trending down for years. Hasn't hit 0.5 PPG since pre-COVID times.

He's likely going back to the same small city (Gavle, Sweden) to resume playing for the team he and his dad both played for. Of note, that city of under 100k people is also the hometown of Lindholm, Markstrom, Jarnkrork, and Niklas Backstrom are all from.

It's pretty crazy, as another small city of just over 30k, Örnsköldsvik, is the hometown of Forsberg, the Sedins, Naslund, Hedman, Enstrom, etc...
