FORWARDS (13)
Right wing: Elias Lindholm ($4,850,000) - Dillon Dubé ($778,333) - Glenn Gawdin ($700,000) - Matthew Phillips ($733,333)

GOALTENDER (2)
Jacob Markström ($6,000,000) - David Rittich ($2,750,000)

BUYOUTS (2)
Troy Brouwer ($1,500,000) - Michael Stone ($1,166,667) (Man this $2.6M would be nice to be able to improve our bottom 6 forwards)

DETAILS
Roster Size: 22
Salary Cap: $81,500,000
Cap Hit: $81,372,499
Cap Space: $127,501

Feels like there is going to be a 2-1 type of deal coming here...
Lucic and Ryan for "one" seventh round pick?

Having the like $8M that's tied up in Lucic, Brouwer and Stone would be pretty nice right about now.

Risk would be minimized if there is an all Canadian NHL division and Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver move their AHL teams to Canada like being speculated/rumored.

If he becomes a top 6 like you and Wilson believe, theyll figure it out.
He already is top six.

He scored 17 even strength goals, that is 3rd on the team behind Lindholm (21) and Tkachuk (18). He did it in less than 14 minutes a night.

17 even strength goals is top 60 in the league. Brayden Point had 17 even strength goals.

1 season is a small sample size, but his first full season and the partial year before it presented the opportunity to buy-in on a player who is likely to establish himself as one of the better two way wingers in the league, and is already absolutely a top six forward.

I think signing Mang for two years is as big a screw up as signing Tkachuk to a bridge deal was (different scale though). Brutal contract management in the bottom six has caused the team a cap crunch today, and will cause cap issues going forward.

My worry: Dube plays 82 games and burns off $30k of cap space via bonuses, and Valimaki plays well and earns some bonuses, and all of a sudden either their cap space is gone entirely or they eat into next season's.

It's hard to argue with this contract but I wish we could have gotten him long term, assuming Mangiapane was willing.

He will be a very good player very quickly and it would have been nice to lock him in at a low price before he starts getting recognition.

At the same time, our cap space made this impossible. An unfortunate reality of the Brouwer/Neal/Stone mistakes.

Rats, was hoping for a long term contract around the high 3s or low 4s. But I guess this team’s cap space was running pretty low. Oh well, good for eat bread. Gives him some good financial security over the next couple of years.

Some fans here who want the Flames to get good and win are also the same ones who completely underappreciate Mangiapane and are willing to trade him, not understanding just how good of a player that he is and how good he's likely to be.

The guy is an absolute stud and is guaranteed to slaughter this contract.

After this contract is up, that'll be 3 years in a row that Mangiapane completely outperformed his contract.

It's not really a screw up when you don't have the cap room.

Mangiapane was a perfect bridge deal candidate imo and I'm glad Treliving didn't sign him to anything close to what some were proposing.

Treliving is a beauty when it comes to RFA deals. I like this deal a lot given Mangiapane remains an RFA at the end and while he had a great year and both the eye test and advanced stats indicate that he's a solid player, he has had only 1 year of very good production for his age and for me, inking him to a 5 or 6 year deal for a higher number carries significant risk. Love seeing homegrown draft picks see success. Excellent work by the scouts to find Mangiapane in the 6th round.

Nothing really - it’s a fair deal in a poor circumstance.

Mangiapane would have been a good bet on a longer-term deal, but this is a great value deal.

Tree has had a pretty solid off-season, but I think he made the exact same mistake with Tanev that he did with Neal and with Brouwer. Hoping I’m wrong.

I’m not that crotchety towards Tree as a whole, what I am crotchety towards is the weather is changing and my elbow is sore and I have a headache and I’m getting old and some fans are really underrating Andrew Mangiapane.

Backlund + Rittich + a 3rd for Reinhart
Ryan to anywhere we can for a 3rd

Gadreau Monahan Reinhart
Tkahuck Lindholm Mangiapane
Lucic Bennett Dube
LW Gawdin RW

- Backlund, Rittich and Ryan out
- 24 year-old, 20-goal/60pt, top-six, right-shot F plus $11.23M cap space in

Now we can re-sign Reinhart for 4-5M and we actually have enough left over to do something really dangerous, like a solid 4th liner that doesn’t do anything boneheaded and can help Gawdin out now and then. Maybe even another right-shot D. Or we can even take on some expiring contracts at the end of the season and collect some draft picks in the deals...
