Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2020 - Round 23

It's time for the 8th annual Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking, but at a different time of year and certainly at a different time.

First a look back at previous years can be done with this handy link: Previous Results

Once again vote how you want. There are those that vote 100% on potential, some that vote 100% on the likelihood to see an NHL rink, others that apply a mix, some using the value in a trade. Completely up to you.

I'll run one a day until we are done, and then FlamesAddiction wants to do a one off list version to compare the results.

We start with 35 names so this should get us pretty close to a Flames camp.

2020 Results
1. Valimaki - 85%
2. Zary - 62%
3. Pelletier - 74%
4. Wolf (Run Off)
5. Mackey (Run Off)

7. Phillips 36%
8. Gawdin 28%

pospisil is a good choice. I went with Lerby, who has performed admirably in a men's league already and could see time as soon as this season.

Also Lerby for me. He's playing in a good league and he's doing pretty well. I wouldn't be shocked to see him as an AHL callup type depth defender in a year.

He's a little small for the NHL. That's my big concern for a defenseman. But he does have skill.

Pospisil/Lerby/Solovyov/Philp and then it’s all a bunch of ultra long shots.

Hoping for Tuulola though.

Luke Philp had 19 goals in the AHL last season. Good enough to get my vote.

I voted for Pospisil, there is always room in the bottom six for players who like to mix it up after the play. That said, I have also seen him play recklessly, including last year in Red Deer where he ran a player in a very vulnerable position. Likewise, he got his bell wrung in his first month in the AHL trying to scrap a heavy weight. If he wants success he can not be danger to other players and himself.

No. 2016 was probably the best its been in a long time. That is 10 NHLers 5 of whom are impact players for the Flames.

Josh Nodler, if he makes it, could top out as a 3rd or 4th line centre, perhaps in the mold of a Stephane Yelle.

Thanks for that, I know nothing about Nodler other than I personally refer to him as the Noodleman

I just need to see a little more from Noddler. 8pts in 36 games at Michigan State. Not too bad for a Freshman. Lets see a big step though.

Josh Nodler is now listed at 6' 0" and over 200 lbs, secondary position RW (shoots right)
Quote:
A pass first playmaking centre whose a tad under six foot and 200 lbs. Displays excellent vision and awareness, and makes plays everywhere on the sheet. Strong skater who can drive through contact, maintaining the possession and placings passes right on teammate’s sticks. Sneaks through the layers of coverage and gets the biscuit to the net. Committed to Michigan State University.

Comment under a Flames Nation Article: A closer look at Josh Nodler

Hahah, I watched Nodler at the Hlinka, believe me when I say he is lightyears ahead of Mattson already. He’s a really good fifth round pick. I have a friend who works in the USHL and everyone raves about Nodler in those circles. Apparently Fargo has a really old fashioned coach that doesn’t play young guys a ton, so most feel his numbers would have been even better on a Souix Falls, Muskegon, etc who play younger players more in a more modern offensive system.
